It’s that time of year to deck your halls with boughs of holly. But if you don’t have holly on hand, you can always use pinecones. Pinecones offer a great way to create some DIY holiday decor.
And the best part is, they don’t cost a thing. Just grab them from outside your home!
Combine with some items from the dollar store and you can create some really beautiful holiday pieces for your home. Your friends and family will think they were store-bought.
Here are 12 cute and simple Christmas decorations to make with pinecones:
1) Pinecone Bouquet
Paint some pinecones white and red. Glue them to long, thin dowels and place them in a vase as you would a bouquet.
2) Votive Candle Holder
Sponge paint the top of a jar and glue some twine around the tip. Fill with fake snow and an electric votive. Glue some pine cones to your twine.
3) Illuminated Cylindars
Fill a glass cylinder with fairy lights. Then fill with pine cones.
4) Stick Arrangement Centerpiece
Spraying paint some branches white. Leave the tall branches plain. Glue some fake red berries to middle-length branches and pinecones to the shortest ones.
Place in a glass vase and use as a centerpiece.
5) Door Ornament
Sew two felt hearts together halfway and stuff with filling before you finish sewing. Attach a long string. Glue another stuffed heart to the other end of the string.
Tie a pine cone at either end of some other strings. Loop at the top and fix with a bow. Hang on your door.
6) Pine Cone Wreath
Glue pine cones to a cardboard ring all in the same direction. Glue sticks with fake berries on top of that and add some fake poinsettias at the bottom.
7) Topiary
Glue pinecones and small gold balls to a sphere. Glue to a stick and insert the stick into a styrofoam cube.
Place the cube in a planter and cover the top of the styrofoam with more pinecones and gold balls.
8) Mini Christmas Tree
Paint the tips of a bunch of pine cones white. Glue the pinecones and red ornament balls to a cone. Place the cone over a candlestick in a candlestick holder.
9) Candlestick Arrangement
Glue some fake candles to a ring. Then cover the ring with pinecones and ornaments. You can even add some deer.
10) Tree Slice Arrangement
Glue a fake candle to a tree slice. Glue pinecones, ornaments, and greenery around the candle.
11) Pinecone Votive
Paint the tips of a pinecone white, then cut off the pieces of a pinecone. Glue your pieces facing upward around a votive holder so that the votive holder looks like a pinecone. Pop your candle in and enjoy.
12) Hanging Piece
Make a bow from ribbon or glue bows to the tops of pinecones. Attach a piece of ribbon to each pinecone and hang from a stick at various lengths.
Hang fairy lights from the stick as well. Glue some greenery to the stick. Hang the piece on your wall.
