Though you want to clean your carpet, you may not want to spend a lot to get the job done. If hiring a cleaning service or renting a machine is not in your budget, you might want to consider these DIY solutions to remove carpet stains and get your carpet clean.

Shaving Cream

Brush some shaving cream onto a carpet stain with a paint or shaving brush. Work the cream into the stain, then use a damp rag to wipe up the rest of the shaving cream. Next, blot the wet area with a white or color-fast cloth until it becomes dry.

DIY Clean Carpet Scent Powder

If your carpet has a stank smell you can use this DIY powder to make it smell fresh again. Mix two cups of cornmeal and one cup of borax. Sprinkle the powder all over the carpet and let it sit for an hour. Now you can vacuum your carpet and enjoy the fresh scent. This is great for getting rid of smoke smells.

Get Up Grease Stains

If your carpet has grease stains, you can pour some finely sifted flour over it. Then lay down pieces of brown paper (like from a lunch bag) over the stain and place heavy objects on top of it. After a half hour, you can take the objects off and sweep the rest of the flour off of the carpet. Repeat the process with new flour and new paper until it is gone.

Remove Wax

Place a white towel over your wax stain and run an iron over it. Then scrape up the excess wax with a butter knife. Then place a paper towel over it and run the iron over it to soak up the remaining wax.

Carpet Stain Solution

Mix one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of warm water into a spray bottle. Pour in a teaspoon of baking soda and quickly close the spray bottle.

Vacuum over the stain and scrub it slightly with the abrasive side of a sponge. Then liberally spray the stain with your solution. Rub and dab the stain until it starts to come up. Continue until the stain is gone.

Club Soda

Club soda works on clothing and your carpets. Blot your coffee or wine stain and then rinse it with club soda. If that doesn’t fully remove the stain, try brushing it with soapy water and rinse.
