College is expensive. Between tuition, books, housing, and normal cost of living – it can add up quickly. Many students end up with massive student loan debt because of university costs.
Bradley, a college student in Jacksonville, Florida, was determined to make sure he had a jump start on a financially secure future – so he built his own house for just $15,000.
Bradley moved out of his parents’ house after high school, and after paying rent for a year, he was sick of spending so much money and decided to move back home to come up with a plan. After saving a bit of money, he ended up creating the ‘Rolling Quarters’ tiny home.
Bradley’s tiny home is just 27 x 8.5 feet in size and is completely self-sufficient.
The home is situated on a plot of land in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by palm trees and marshland. Rolling Quarters got its name for being both mobile living quarters, and a money-saving technique.
Stepping inside, the tiny home on wheels is cozy and welcoming.
Looking toward the rear of Rolling Quarters, you can see the kitchen to the right, bathroom to the left, study space in the back, and sleeping loft up above. Bradley also made sure to include lots of shelving for storage and clever hooks for hanging pots and pans.
The kitchen features an 8-foot-long countertop providing lots of space for prepping meals.
A large window sits above the sink, giving the illusion of more space in the tiny house. Cooking is done using an electric hot plate which is stored underneath the counter and there is a large, deep basin sink for washing dishes.
The comfy lounge space has a sofa that contains a ton of storage underneath, and it can also be pulled out to serve as a guest bed.
This seating area also contains a table to the left which pulls out to act as a dining table. Bradley made sure to incorporate windows throughout the entire space to let in natural light and visually expand the home.
The small bathroom boasts a full-size shower and a composting toilet.
As it turns out, Bradley randomly found the shower on the side of the road. As for the toilet, it doesn’t require any hook-ups whatsoever, so Bradley can live completely self-sufficiently on his property.
The college student’s sleeping loft is simple and minimalistic.
Beautiful wood ceilings and a uniquely shaped window in the rear of the sleeping loft give it a cozy and inviting feel – the perfect place to curl up at night. Bradley added a long locker in the loft to serve as a dresser and storage area.
For less than a year’s worth of rent, Bradley built his own home on wheels that he can have for years to come.
