With the cooler months coming up, you’re going to need warmer gear. Crocheting an ear warmer is great for beginners because it is simple to make. Try making one for yourself or give it to someone as a gift! Follow this pattern to make this stylish accessory.
You Will Need
- worsted weight yarn
- a size H crochet hook
- scissors
- a yarn needle
Getting Started
Begin by chaining 19. If you want a thinner ear muff, chain less; if you want it thicker, chain more.
For the first row, Slip stitch into the second chain from the hook, then half double crochet into the next stitch. Continue to alternate down the row. The chain should end with a half double crochet. This is called the moss stitch. Chain 1 and turn.
Continue to use the moss stitch until you reach your desired length. It should be long enough to fit around your head, but be sure to leave a 1/2 inch gap between where the ends meet.
Once you have finished the main part of the ear warmer, connect the ends together by chaining 4 then connecting it to the other side with a slip stitch. Chain 4 then connect it about 3/4 an inch down on the other side. Repeat so that the end result is a zigzag.
Tie the middle part together.
Finally, to make the band for the middle, chain 5 then single stitch in the second chain. Single stitch in the next 3 chains, chain 2, then turn. Repeat this until you have a piece long enough to wrap around the middle.
Wrap the band around the middle of the ear warmer and sew the band together. You have your completed project!
