When a designer first decided to start shopping at thrift stores for cheap clothing, she was in it for a good cause. “I was worried about the impact on our planet as people tossed out their one-time-wear duds more and more quickly to make room for the newer & cheaper clothing,” she said.

Jillian Owens is a fashionista who shows the world her tasteful style through her blog Refashionista. She is known for taking items of clothing that cost around $1 and turning them into beautiful trendy outfits.

Jillian searches through thrift stores often, looking for inexpensive clothing that has the potential to be altered into something totally new.

Once she takes them home, the magic begins. For some outfits, she snips away at fabric, alters hems, and dies clothing into new colors. She also pairs the new trendy clothing with other accessories.

Some of the accessories might include a stylish belt, shoes, or even some shades!

Oftentimes the original clothing has some unique or stylish element to it, but just needs a bit of work to turn into something truly special. The item on the left, for example, has a beautiful floral pattern, but just doesn’t have the right fit or length. After some quick customizations at home, the same dress is turned into a wonderful outfit on the right!

This one above shows just how transformative she can be with her items! Just look at how amazing her new outfit looks considering how it once started out!

This oversized dress shows that even with the wrong fit, her handiwork can turn something into just the right size. Her expert use of color dye is also a beautiful touch on the new outfit.

This one looks like it started out around one dollar, and ended up looking like a million bucks!

She can even take the same original item and turn them into multiple trendy outfits that work for any occasion! Talk about resourcefulness!
