10 Easy Ways To Get Rid Of Scratches On Glasses

For those of us that wear glasses, we know that they aren’t cheap. After picking out frames and having the lenses put in – it’s quite the investment! So, when your lenses become scratched, it can be frustrating; not only does it blur your vision, but new lenses can be costly.

If your eyeglasses have a few scratches, don’t worry! There are 10 easy ways to remove them for good.

Let’s face it, we all leave our glasses out of their cases or throw them in our purse or pockets without a second thought. It’s normal, everyday actions like this that cause our eyeglass lenses to get small scratches – but thankfully, they aren’t permanent.

1. Dish soap and glass cleaner

Combine a few drops of dish soap into a small bowl of window cleaner and mix together. Use a soft cloth to scrub your lenses with the cleaning mixture. Rinse and dry with a microfiber cloth.

Apply half a tablespoon of car wax to a microfiber cloth and give the lenses a gentle scrub using circular motions. Buff out the remaining wax using a clean and dry portion of the cloth.

3. Baby wash is a gentle cleanser

Since baby washes and shampoos are generally chemical-free, they are perfect for buffing out scratches. Just use a couple of drops with some warm water and scrub with your fingers or a soft cloth. This will also help prevent future buildup on the lenses.

4. Simply baking soda and water

Create a paste of baking soda and water in a small bowl. Cover the entire lens with the paste and buff gently. Simply rinse with water, and you’re good to go.

5. White vinegar

White vinegar can be used to clean lots of things in the household – including your eyeglasses. Mix some baking soda and vinegar together and wait for the foaming to subside, use a soft cloth to buff out scratches with the mixture.

6. Brass polish might do the trick

Brass polish could be the answer to removing stuck on debris and shallow scratches. Make sure to check the label though, if the product contains acetone, it could have the opposite effect and ruin your lenses.

Dab some plain old toothpaste (no gel or whitening) on a cotton ball and massage it into the scratched lenses for 10-15 seconds. Rinse and repeat if scratches remain.

8. Rubbing alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is an excellent ingredient for removing scratches – it just needs some help with a gentle abrasive like a microfiber cloth or a little bit of baking soda. It’s also a great way to give them a good clean even when there aren’t scratches to buff out.

9. Plain soap and water

If you don’t have rubbing alcohol or baking soda around, a simple solution of soap and water could help. You’ll need to have a microfiber cloth to help the scratches get polished out.
