Have you ever wondered what it would be like to discover the world with your children?

Many of us dream of this scenario, but life happens and we just get busy. We set aside these dreams and settle for two weeks out of a year to show the world to our families.

Ray and Katherine no longer wanted to wait for that moment. They wanted to show the world to their three children.

In December 2020, they sold their house and bought Bart, their Overlander truck.

The goal was to bring their children, Tyler, Estelle, and Evan, to different places in the U.S. using their “mobile home.” Katherine and Ray call it “world schooling.”

Yes, the kids still learn basic school subjects, like Math and Science, and they learn about culture, history, and communication through their trips.

One of the things they need to make sure of is that Bart is completely equipped for the family’s needs.

Bart has a full kitchen, bunk beds for the two younger children, an extra bed for guests, and the parent’s bedroom/family living room.

They also have a separate trailer with a room for their oldest child, a storage room, and an outdoor space for all of them.

This life has become their normal, and do you know the best part?

The whole family gets to live their life and travel at the same time together. They get to explore new places while still staying at home.

At first, they bought the Overlander for their weekend travels.

Then Ray thought that maybe they can use the truck full-time. It took about five minutes to convince Katherine, who loved to travel.

“What really excited us about this is that it takes us out of our comfort zone… with the family never knowing where we’re going to camp next… and there’s also the building process and how to work through things,” Ray explained.

It may have been an unbelievable investment but it’s something they haven’t regretted for one second.

“We’re investing in our family and that’s what’s most important,” Katherine shared.

Ray is a builder by profession so he was able to build their Overlander himself.

Of course, this is the best option because they get to design their home according to their needs and their budget. All in all, they spent around $80,000, which would not be totally possible today because of inflation.

However, Ray hopes that their decision can influence other individuals or families to follow their lead.

One of the things that Katherine emphasized during this interview was that organization is key. Being organized will help them make the most of every day and every trip.

The whole truck is peppered with different storage drawers and storage baskets. Plus everything has its own place and some drawers even serve another purpose.

The entire truck has been built mindfully for the family’s goals.

They hope they can influence more people to do what they did: get out of their comfort zone and live their dream. Is this you?
