I love how straightforward and simple this project is and that I can make 15 of them for the price of one.

Christmas decor can be a costly endeavor.

Year after year, some of us yearn to have elaborate decorations to celebrate the season of giving.

Oftentimes, these pieces can be found in malls, department stores, or public spaces.

While we can install some of these at home, our wallets really won’t let us.

However, a content creator showed that it’s possible and with a big slash on the price.

YouTube channel Pink Nose Chronicles posts videos about arts and crafts.

According to their YouTube Channel, their posts aim to help people save money by teaching them decoration hacks using recycled materials.

That’s just what they did here.

It starts with hula hoops.

The ready-made decoration costs about $300. By everybody’s standards, that’s just a bit too much.

You can make it for $20.

Here are the things you’ll need.

  • 4 hula hoops
  • Glue gun
  • Spray paint
  • 100-count strand of Christmas lights
  • 1 roll of mesh netting
  • Decorative ribbons, snowflakes, or other ornaments
  • zip ties
  • an old yogurt or cottage cheese container painted silver

First, build the frame.

You can find other scrap materials for the frame but to make it easier, Pink Nose Chronicles used dollar-store Hoola hoops.

Cut 3 hula hoops in half. Leave the 4th one whole.

Trim the ends of cut hoops a bit to make space for the uncut Hoola hoop.

Be careful with your cutting materials.

Using hot glue, fasten the halved Hoola hoops onto the uncut one to make the frame of the sphere.

Then, using spray paint, cover the frame with the color of your choice. For starters, you can use either white or silver.

Then, it’s time to decorate.

Loop your Christmas lights around the individual spokes.

You can also wrap it around the frame altogether. It’s really up to you. Just take note of the length of your lights so you’d know how to distribute them evenly.

Make sure that when you loop your lights, the socket should end either at the top of the sphere if you’re planning to hang it or at the bottom if you’re planning to put it on the floor.

Continue decorating.

Using the mesh, measure and cut out panels to cover each section of the sphere.

You can also use bead strings along the frame or other shiny ribbons for the lining.

You can also use giant gift-wrapping ribbons to tie around the sphere or you can use individual pieces like giant snowflakes or reindeer patterns.

Remember that the color scheme and design are up to you and your motif this Christmas so you have every permission to go crazy.

Now, secure the base.

Using the remaining cable ties, make a loop that goes through the frame and another one inside that to make the hanging ring.

You can cover this by using a small painted container.
