The weather is starting to warm up and you know what the means — summer is coming. With summer, comes barbecues, pool parties, and other fun summer activities. Most of these summer activities may take place in your backyard, That’s why you need to make sure that your backyard will look beautiful for this upcoming summer.

Have you ever thought about adding a small pond to your backyard? Trust me, it sounds a lot harder than you think. The end result, however, is something that is truly spectacular. If you’re interested, you’ll need the following materials:

  • rope or string
  • shovel
  • liner for pond
  • underlayment
  • water
  • filter or water kit
  • decorative works

The first thing you need to do is map out your pond’s size and location using a rope or string. Next, it’s time to start digging. Once you have a hole big enough, lay your liner and use an underlayment to protect your liner. Make sure the liner leaves at least a 10-12 inch overhand around your hole. Now fill the pond about halfway with water.

Now it’s time to set up the filter kit and pump. Once you’ve assembled the filter kit and pump, attach the novel head you’ll be using and use half-inch tubing to cone the spitter to the diverter valve on your kit. Put the pump in the center of your pond and resume filling your pond with water.

If you’re thinking about adding fish or plants to your ponds, be sure to add chlorine remove to your pond water. Once you’ve filled up your pond, use stones to secure your liner. That’s it — you’re done. Enjoy your beautiful new pond!
