How would you describe your dream house?
One of the favorite answers from Young Post said that their dream house would be “well-stocked.” Aiswarya Rambhatla mentioned, “My dream house would almost certainly include a gigantic fridge that would hold all the food needed for the next month — that way I wouldn’t even need to go outside.”
Another shared that it would be “out of this world.” Chris Chow said, “I’ve always wanted to see the Earth from space so my dream house would orbit the Earth.”
Have you heard or read anything about Earthship?
An Earthship is a kind of passive solar earth shelter. It is composed of both natural and repurposed materials, such as earth-packed tires. It was developed by Michael Reynolds, an American architect based in New Mexico.
Bryce from the YouTube channel Living Big In A Tiny House is passionate about small space design. He set out on a quest to locate the best tiny homes, alternative residences, and downsized eco-friendly living stories.
In 2018, Bryce traveled to Adelaide, Australia to visit a truly remarkable off-the-grid wonder in the form of an Earthship home.
Michael Reynolds was motivated to address the problem of trash and a scarcity of affordable housing. He believes in “radically sustainable living.”
Martin and Zoe are one couple who were impressed by Michael’s efforts and chose to build an Earthship on their property in Australia.
Michael has founded Earthship Biotecture that educates builders from its home in Taos, New Mexico. He has built examples of these unique dwellings all around the world.
After discovering Earthship Biotecture, Martin traveled to Taos to study with Michael. He wanted to learn the skill and craft of Earthship design and construction.
When he returned to Australia, he began developing a small Earthship home.
This small dwelling, at only 70 square meters (750 ft2), is very extraordinary.
It’s built to be ultra-efficient, generating its power, collecting its water, maintaining a constant temperature, treating and recycling its greywater, and even growing food. These are all while taking up very little space.
Building an Earthship, on the other hand, is no easy work!
There is a tremendous amount of labor required. Fortunately, Martin and Zoe were supported by a tiny army of volunteers who came to their aid and assisted in the construction of their ideal home.
To add to the challenge, Martin and Zoe wanted this home to be Australia’s first Earthship to go through the council approval procedure.
This means that every component of the odd structure had to meet rules.
However, the end product is nothing short of stunning!
This magnificent property is now a showcase for Australian sustainable home design.
Martin is currently working as an Earthship designer and natural construction consultant all over the world.
This Earthship Home wowed a lot of internet viewers.
One person stated that he is a great Earthship enthusiast!
“I’m a huge fan of Earthships. Driving through Taos, New Mexico and the outlying areas, you can see scores of them. Pretty much the epicenter of all things “Earthship”. This is a beautiful example of one and glad to see the design philosophy is spreading to other areas!”
