Don’t you just love watching talented and passionate people buying old houses and restoring them to gorgeous homes?
You can even spend hours just watching these wondrous transformations, and true enough, this might get you thinking, “maybe I can do it too.”
For the Homestead Craftsman, this is the usual response of people that watch his videos, but according to him, it’s hard labor.
How does it work?
Before buying an old house, you must study your investment first. How much can you get the house, how much will you spend on renovation, and how much will be your ROI in a couple of months?
On his other YouTube channel, Homemade Home, he posted a video three years ago.
This is his introduction to his new project that he calls the $9,000 home.
He hadn’t originally intended to do this project, but now that he’s secured the house, he might as well go ahead.
In the video, we see a two-story house with two bedrooms, spacious parking for two cars and two bathrooms.
This home is near the farmhouse that he’s fixing.
He bought the worn-out home for $8,500 and spent another $1,000 for closing.
His plan is to put it up for rent for around $700 minimum.
Upon entering, you’ll notice the living room and the dining room with old-style windows.
With that, he took his viewers on a tour of the kitchen, remarking how fortunate it was that they couldn’t smell what he smelled.
There were litter boxes, a fridge full of expired and rotten food, and cat waste and pee all over.
He also felt a little weird with the tiny bathroom in the kitchen closet, saying that he might make this work by adding a sink.
The balcony looked unstable and had lots of cobwebs.
As he toured his audience upstairs, you’ll first see the first bedroom with a very low ceiling. You’d also see the painted plywood floors.
He said he’d put carpet on the floors to start with.
Now, he also didn’t approve of the design of the bathroom that was divided to create a small closet.
He said he’ll remove this divider and plans to open up the bathroom and put in another door so the other room would have access to it.
Before that, he needs to address the leaking roof and check where the leak had started.
The second bedroom was in better condition. It was about 13 ft. by 14 sq. meters and it had a small closet and 2 windows.
He then checked the basement, and, as you guessed, it was also dirty.
This is where the washer and dryer were located, with a big couch beside it.
Come to think of it, it’s quite spacious down there, so he felt excited to work in this area too.
He said he’ll take the sink and use it for his workshop.
As for the hot water tank, he’d replace that, along with some other wirings.
There was also a huge backyard and a small door where the sewer line was located.
He also mentioned that the family left some intriguing things behind, such as the original Nintendo, Playstation, PS2, video games, movies, and toys.
Sounds like a lot of work, right?
