The military is known for many things. Bravery, strength, discipline, and patriotism to just name a few.
One hidden aspect they should be more known for is their bed making skills. Their beds have to pass an inspection and that means they know how to make their beds tight and perfect.
Up your game by learning how to make your bed like a soldier. It will be life changing, or should we say sleep changing.
Besides your mattress, fitted sheet, and top sheet, if you have a long handled wooden spoon it will be extremely helpful, but it is not necessary to have one.
The first step is to tuck your fitted sheet onto your mattress. The important part during this first step is to make sure the elastic corners are not only tucked around the corners, but completely tucked under the mattress. This will make for a much tighter fitted sheet and it is less likely to come undone if you are person that moves around in their sleep.
Now it is time to grab your top sheet. Lay the top sheet over the fitted sheet with the top of the sheet aligning perfectly with the top of the mattress. You also want to make sure that the sheet hangs evenly over both sides of the mattress.
The video gives a great tip, “Place the edge of the sheet with the longer hem – about 2 inches wide – at the head of the bed.”
You will want to start at the bottom of the bed to tuck in the top sheet.
You will tuck in the bottom of the sheet completely underneath the mattress. You can lift the bottom of the mattress to do so. If you cannot lift the mattress, this is where the wooden spoon can come in handy. You can use the wooden spoon to tuck the sheet under the mattress. Either way, you want to make sure the sheet lays flat between the mattress and the box springs.
So far, the bed making process has been similar to how many people make their bed. It is the next steps that will create a tighter fit for your bed.
The instructions state, “Lift the top sheet about a foot away from the foot of the bed on the bedside. Pull straight up to form a diagonal fold and lay the fold flat on top of the bed. Tuck the piece that is hanging from the corner under the mattress. Smooth the diagonal fold down over the side of the bed, and tightly tuck it under the mattress.”
Then you will tuck in the rest of the top sheet tightly under the mattress. Once you are about a foot away from the top of the bed you will stop tucking in. You will want to fold down the top sheet to make a tight edge.
This is not only for tightness but also for a nice presentation.
Repeat the process for the other side of the bed, making sure the sheet is tight throughout the entire process. Once this is completed you will have the perfect bed that could pass military inspection. Now you can add your pillows, comforter, or blanket that goes over your sheets.
It will be hard not to jump right into bed for a comfortable nap!
