Financial crisis.

Just like many other young professionals, Nick and Meghan were just thriving to get by every day.

They amassed quite a huge debt that they even didn’t mean to have. The couple lived life in debt for quite some time until their son was born.

Nick and Meghan decided to make themselves financially ready as new parents. So, the first-ever step that they made was selling their 2,000-square-foot home and moving into a camper van.

Eventually, their decision came in as a success because they were able to pay off $82,000 worth of debt.

However, the couple got tired of living in the camper van. Soon, they decided to buy a shed from Home Depot and renovate it on a piece of land that they bought in the mountains of Georgia.

They started building their dream home on the eight acres of property they had purchased for their new house.

The shed was just a shell when they purchased it.

But that fueled their desire in transforming it into a beautiful home where they can peacefully live.

“We bought our code book, we met with the local code enforcement, we did everything that needed to be done to convert that into a home,” Nick said.

Nick acted as the general contractor of the renovation project and believe it or not, they mainly relied on instructions from YouTube videos. Hardwork sure pays off and that’s what they achieved when they were able to turn a mere Home Depot shed into a two-story, 860-square-foot home.

The newly-renovated home has a bedroom, a deck, and a working water system.

“It was very radical and extreme but we wouldn’t have it any other way,” Nick said.

The couple shelled out around $60,000 during the entire renovation process.

“A home is really just a place for you to lay your head down at night and just recover and replenish yourself. We didn’t spend a lot of time inside. When you have eight acres in the middle of the woods, you have some freedom to do what you want,” Nick said.

Their initial plan was to live in the renovated shed while they’re building their new home that’s situated on the same land.

But sadly, the pandemic happened and it caused home prices to increase across the country.

That’s when they thought of a good idea – to sell it.

“We had a lot of people tell us we should Airbnb it out. It was kind of like, ‘Let’s just list it and see what happens.’ And we got a lot of hits on it. It was like, ‘Oh, maybe people do like this,’” Meghan said.

That’s about $225,000 in profit. They eventually used the money in building their new home.

“The ability to pay off everything, move into a camper, and literally be debt-free was most the freeing experience that I think anyone can ever experience,” Nick told the New York Post.

The Lucidos definitely hit the jackpot and are happy with their new fully-custom-built two-story home with an open porch. However, that doesn’t mean they’re no longer open about the idea of flipping a home again.
