It’s inevitable that white shirts start to yellow around the collar and by the armpits. There are a number of ways to remove these stains, but often it requires taking the shirts to the cleaners or using expensive chemical solutions that can harm the environment. However, this eco-friendly, low-cost solution can have your shirts as white as they were when they were purchased.

What You’ll Need

  1. 1 tablespoon salt
  2. 1/2 cup baking soda
  3. 1 cup vinegar
  4. 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide

Directions

1) Sweat stains are not actually caused directly by sweat. They are actually the result of a reaction between your body and aluminum-based antiperspirants. To start, soak the clothes in a bowl of 2 cups of lukewarm water and 1 cup of vinegar. Let the clothes soak for ~20 minutes.

2) Create a paste by mixing the salt, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda. Take the clothes out of the solution and gently squeeze until most of the solution is out of the clothes. Then put the shirt of a surface and add a layer of the mixture onto the stained areas. The baking soda and salt will remove the stain while the hydrogen peroxide will whiten the clothes. Let the clothes sit for at least 20 minutes.
