Ellen used to live in Austin, Texas. Fourteen years to be exact. A 1200 square foot condo wasn’t helping her finances so she was trying to think of a way to live affordably.

That’s when she found a building that was to be turned into an art studio.

The building structure itself is around eight years old now.

Its previous owner purchased the shed on a lot that sold outdoor buildings. Ellen took over the shed and turned it into her home.

She bought it from the previous owner and had it moved to her son’s land. Ellen’s son is in California so she took him up on his offer and began to work on the shed.

The 67-year-old began by gutting the interior.

Ellen had to change the interior to suit her needs. And her goal while building was to keep it affordable. It took her a few months to actually settle in because of the work needed to be done.

Rains and flooding delayed progress.

Ellen’s porch is really quaint, with pots of flowers and a bench where she can just sit and enjoy the weather. She used to have a bike but her neighbors care for it now.

She’s got little wind chimes that glow at night too!

Walk around the shed and you’ll see a part of her air conditioning and the septic system. A small shed with a split level AC system must be so cozy to stay in.

It’s an open concept inside which works well for Ellen as it keeps it roomy. Everything is easily accessible which is very important especially for a woman her age.

384 square feet maximized for her personal living.

A “Welcome” sign greets visitors into the shed home. A counter top, kitchen sink and refrigerator are in plain view but everything is thoughtfully laid out. Simple and clean.

Ellen made do with what she had but she did buy the stove and refrigerator. There’s smart storage everywhere for her needs, including an island with a cabinet that doubles as her pantry.

Her family played a big role, especially her brother who has a lot of contacts. He’s in the business of restoring and fixing up homes who fall victim to floods.

So he helped move the shed for Ellen.

The outside paint needs a touch up but the base is very sturdy and it does not flood in the area so Ellen doesn’t worry so much. She does have plans and ideas of changing the place up a bit.

Ellen is thinking of purchasing dehumidifiers since she doesn’t have a lot of ventilation.

The shed still needs some improvements and the video actually asks viewers for help so Ellen will have a lot of options.

As impressive as the lay out is, Ellen is still looking for improvements. She’s open to change and that’s saying something for a woman her age.
