Moving into a new home is always a momentous occasion, though it can also be quite an undertaking if there’s a significant amount of work or remodeling to do. Still, some people enjoy the thrills of renovation on a different level, namely as a hobby or a way to make a little extra cash.
That’s definitely the case for John and Sherry Petersik, a couple out of Richmond Virginia who launched a site detailing their adventures called Young House Love. In 2007, the pair started a website called Young House Love to detail their adventures. Still, the work they did on the house they currently live in has to be seen to be believed.
While the house was already beautiful on first look, there was still a decent amount of work to be done. There was trim that needed changing, old carpets and leaks in the roof to deal with. Fortunately, the Petersiks were more than up to the challenge. They began with the outside of the garage, which initially had plain white paint on the garage doors and siding…
Before they sharpened it up with new paint and some other small adjustments. Still, that was light work compared to the inside.
The old foyer had powder blue doors, old wallpaper, old ceiling fixtures and slate tile floors.
Until the Petersiks gave it all a facelift with new paint, new trim, new wood floors, a new ceiling fixture and even a decorative painting on the wall!
The stairs were the next thing to be improved, as the old look was rather bland with basic carpeting and wood paneling. With a new carpet and paint on all the baseboards, everything was livened up and made to look fresh and new.
One of the even better transformations was in the half bathroom, which definitely had a lived-in feeling before. The wallpaper was dated and the grout on the floors looked like it needed a change.
After they were done with it, everything looked brand new. The floors were switched out for more wood and the old sink cabinet was traded out for something a little cleaner. Next up was the dining room which had some familiar issues: old wallpaper, strange trim, and an outdated chandelier. The final transformation was huge.
The second bathroom’s transformation was just as impressive.
The dining room looks even more spectacular. Can’t you just picture them having family dinners hear all the time?
All the wallpaper was changed out for clean off-white paint and brighter trim, a new chandelier and all new decorations. These types of changes carried on throughout the house, including the living room and office.
Even more impressive is the kitchen, which went from relatively drab…
To a spacious and clean looking room straight out of a magazine.
The new living room area was also pretty impressive, with a sweeping view into the new kitchen as well.
The kid’s bedroom looks absolutely stunning. They transformed this empty room into a bedroom fit for a king. I wish I had a room like this growing up. Can these people decorate my house for me?
And to top it off, this family created a beautiful backyard, perfect for hosting parties and barbecues. I really love what they did with the deck area. The umbrellas are a nice touch.
In all, the Petersiks’ work on their house is enough to inspire the amateur remodeler in all of us. Could you picture yourself living in this home? Or better yet, if you had unlimited time and the resources, what changes would you have made to the house?
