Senior on fixed income builds gorgeous tiny home with sunroom and couldn’t be happier
72-year-old Gloria is able to enjoy retirement comfortably in her "tiny" home (which isn't so tiny with the amazing sunroom addition). I'd love to do something like this!

For many people, giving up their standard, large homes in urban areas and moving into tiny homes in rural locations involves quite a lot of compromise.

They have to leave most of their furniture behind, as well as clothes and shoes, and other items that just won’t fit in their new, significantly smaller, home.

But it doesn’t always have to be like this.

For a woman who has moved from her 1,800 square feet into a tiny home in the Incredible Tiny House Community in Tennessee, going tiny didn’t necessarily mean leaving most of her stuff behind.

As Gloria explained, once she found herself alone in a giant home that she didn’t even make the most of, she realized it might be time to change her lifestyle – especially being on a fixed income.

So, Gloria looked up tiny homes, and she came across this particular community.

It looked perfect for her and her small furry friends.

She told Tiny House Giant Journey:

“Going tiny, it was mostly about affordability to me. I’m 72, I’m on fixed income. I can’t afford to buy a big house and live that grand life, when I can have all the same things on a smaller scale…”

Gloria contacted the community founders, who also happen to be builders, and together they designed and built a home that was exactly what she wanted and needed at the time.

The inside of the house is as small as 320 square feet, but she has made sure to make the most of it and take advantage of every little corner in order to make her living as comfortable as possible.

However, she soon realized that she didn’t want to leave certain pieces of furniture behind, so she had the builders build a sun deck for her so that her favorite furniture could find a place to start a new life.

In the video below, this sweet lady is taking us on a tour around her house, which to some may not look exactly tiny, but it’s actually 1/5 of the house she once owned.

Gloria is proud of her sunroom.

She has her comfortable sofas and armchairs there, along with her beautiful Christmas tree, or the “lady” as she calls it.

This is where she welcomes her friends every morning for coffee and a nice chat, while it can sometimes be a meeting place for an evening drink.

The inside of the house is really cozy.

Her bed is right next to the window and by the fireplace, which makes it extra warm.

The kitchen has all the stuff and tools she needs for the cooking- and, as she admits, Gloria does a lot of cooking!

The shower is very comfortable, while the toilet is designed in a way so that it’s not too cramped, but it also doesn’t take more space than it needs.

She also has a custom-made storage loft, where she can get using a pull-up ladder.

Gloria has also made sure to fill her garden with the herbs and veggies she so much loves to grow, and she has also created a safe “playground” for her tiny dogs to protect them from coyotes and bears that can sometimes make an appearance.

We are in love with this beautiful home. How about you?
