Summer is here which means that someone in your house, at some point, will likely get a nasty sunburn— despite your repeated warnings and pleas to apply sunscreen.

So you might as well prepare for the fallout now.

Cindie Allen-Stewart says her husband came up with the perfect solution to soothe her sunburn. She posted the solution on Facebook and it ended up going viral.

“I stand by this method. If you want to try it, go for it! If not, that’s fine too! I just figured I’d help my friends out a bit to show them the way I use. I have used it for about 10 years and have never had an issue with it. I always get the same result,” Allen-Stewart writes.

Allen-Stewart’s method is no substitute for properly using sunscreen by any means. Definitely use it all the time, as directed!

But if you do get sunburned, here’s what you can do:

Apply a thick layer of menthol foam shaving to your burn. It has to be menthol and it has to be foam. The gel won’t work, neither will non-methol shaving cream.

Do not rub the shaving cream in. Just let it sit on your skin and sink in. Allen-Stewart says the menthol foam will draw the heat out.

If it starts to itch, that means it’s working.

If you feel that your skin is cooling, that’s also a good sign. The shaving cream might dissolve in a few spots after a half hour, or you might notice that it’s losing moisture and drying out. But that’s OK, wait the full half hour.

After 30 minutes you can rinse the shaving cream off with lukewarm or cool water.

You can repeat the treatment if needed.

“The pictures show my treatment. The final picture was taken on the third day after my sunburn. I slept great after the first treatment and when my shoulders still felt hot from the burn the next day, I had another coating of shaving cream on just my shoulders. I have not had any peeling either. I use this on my kids too!” Allen-Stewart said.

“I’m Absolutely trying this if I ever get burnt again!! Thank you so very much for sharing!! I was sunburned this year so bad nothing worked!! Couldn’t sleep, couldn’t move, nothing!! So again thank you for sharing!” said one Facebook user.

Apparently, Allen-Stewart isn’t the only one who has successfully used this method.
