You would never hear 13-year-old Luke Thill utter the words “I’m bored.” In fact — in his downtime, he built his own house.
Apparently, the young teen had taken an interest in tiny homes lately. He appreciated the concept of the small living space for an affordable price. Remember — he’s only 13-years-old.
“I like the minimalism, and I wanted to have a house without a huge mortgage,” Luke says, spoken like someone with a few more decades of life experience.
After one short year of hard work, Luke’s very own tiny home had come to life. The teenager raised the money, purchased the products, and built the house all on his own.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, his 89-square-foot home only cost him around $1,500. He kept costs to a minimum with some smart business savvy thinking. 75% of Luke’s tiny home is built with reclaimed products and materials.
So, how does a 13-year-old boy happen to come across $1,500? He earned it! He raised the money by mowing lawns and doing odd jobs around the house and neighborhood. Pretty amazing, right? The entire process taught him about making sound financial decisions, the value of hard work, and he even learned how to frame and wire the home.
Luke’s tiny home is fully wired with electricity (done professionally, of course). However, it lacks plumbing.
“The main purpose is to be my starter home. I’m going to save money and expand,” Luke explained.
The talented and intelligent teen has bigger plans now that he’s accomplished this goal; Luke wants to build a bigger mobile home that he can take away to college. Not many kids his age have such lofty goals, color us impressed!
Luke has gotten a lot of attention for his awesome tiny home; he was even asked to speak at a tiny house convention.
The young man has stayed humble, though, and says the thing he enjoyed the most was the bonding time he had with his dad during the building process.
“Me and my dad really bonded through the process…he was really busy but he made sure to spend time with me.”
The awesome teen has given over 1.3 million people a tour of his tiny home in the video below. What do you think of his impressive feat?
