If you have old tires lying around, why not make them into something useful?
Tires are made to be very sturdy to withstand extreme weather and terrain; it would be a total waste to throw them away once you’re done with them.
There are still many ways you can reuse or repurpose your old tires.
Leira’s YouTube Channel is your go-to guide to everything and anything you can do with tires.
She has multiple videos on what to do with scrap tires sitting in your garage for too long.
You’ll discover how versatile tires are and how you can craft stuff with them if you have the right tools and imagination.
For this video, Leira showed how to make adorable teacup planters from tires.
This planter is great for flowering plants and other bushes you want to grow in a particular spot in your garden.
Since the tires are big, you can plant something that would complement its size – both in height and width.
Here are some materials you might need for this:
- 3 scrap tires (preferably of almost the same size)
- 6-8 pcs. Screws
- Painter’s tape (or stencils)
- Spray Paint
You also need some power tools to help cut through the tires.
In the video, you can see that she’s using a cutter and a compact saw to cut the sidewall of the tires and an angle grinder to cut across the tire’s tread.
She also used a drill-driver combo tool to secure the tires together.
First, cut across one sidewall of two tires.
You can cut an opening through the side so it would be easier to pierce the compact saw through.
Once you have a big enough slit, you can saw off one sidewall of your first tire.
Place that tire on top of another, smaller tire, the remaining sidewall facing down.
Drill and screw the two sidewalls of both tires to secure them in place.
Next, get another tire and cut both sidewalls. It’s best to use a tire bigger than your bottom tire.
Using the sidewalls of that last tire, use one of them as your “saucer” and attach it at the bottom.
Then, cut the other one with an angle grinder into half or at least at your desired length for your cup’s handle.
Screw one end of that tire strip on top of the main planter’s structure.
Once secured, bend the tire strip and attach the other end on the bottom end.
Now your planter is formed into a cup!
You can use painter’s tape or stencils to add design to your planter.
If you want to use painter’s tape, you can use acetate or any transparent film and place the tape there.
Then, you can shape it to whatever design you want, cut it, remove the tape from the film, and paste it on the planter.
Spray the planter with whichever color you like!
All these steps depend on your design taste, so go ahead and do whatever you want.
Let the paint dry before you place any soil on it and start planting!
