Do you have old patio chairs lying around your house?

Thinking about throwing them out? What if you can turn that old rugged chair and reuse it?

Stick around and you’ll find useful tips that’ll save you a few more dollars and keep you from buying a new one.

Grab your favorite paracord.

The Youtube channel Paracord Planet shared the idea that you can “upcycle” your old chairs and make them look brand new again.

For this project, you would need about a thousand feet of paracord. This is a great alternative to replace the old, woven plastic ones on the furniture’s metal frame.

You can either use two different colors, or just a single color, depending on your preference.

Paracords are unbelievably durable and useful.

First, you have to remove the old plastic from the metal frame. Once removed, you can now start the re-weaving process.

Weaving is a method used for textile production in which two different sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth.

When doing it manually, you need plenty of patience, so mark this down for a Saturday project where you’ve got nothing else planned but hanging out outside.

Then, get to weaving.

Start by covering the corners of the chair. Tie a “Constrictor Knot” at the edge, then loop the rope until you reach the desired length to cover.

It’s good to note when you have a chair that has an uneven length from the front and back, use the shortest side as a reference for the length to cover the edges.

He shows all of this in detail in the video that concludes this article.

Ready, set, weave!

Once the four corners are covered, we are now ready to weave.

Use a cord winder or any hard material to wind up the cord you will be using.

Then, tie the two cords using Constrictor Knot on the front side.

For the methodology:

Start by placing the tied rope at the top, then go underneath the back side of the chair’s bar.

Then go to the top bar, which should hold the backrest. Wrap the cord around the top bar once before you go back to the starting point.

Wrap the cord once on the backside bar before going your way back to the starting point.

Repeat this pattern until everything is covered.

Now for the second cord.

Next up is to weave the other set of ropes, which should be perpendicular to the first pattern we just did.

This part will require a little more effort since we need to weave it through the laid-out paracord.

You’ll need to use a yardstick or something similar so you can pry an opening and let the rope slip through the interlaced cord.

Weave the cord into the other side, crisscrossing your way through the rope.

The end result will be satisfying, especially when you know that you put your effort into making an old chair and gave it a fresh new look.

This is also a great way to lessen your carbon footprint through recycling.

And you can make your chair look awesome.
