Most people have never seen a 1962 Western Pacific Airstream before. That’s because there are only 10 in existence, and of those ten, only five of them are held in public possession. Even of those five, there’s only one that looks quite like this.
Timeless Travel Trailers is known for restoring Airstreams, Westcrafts, and Spartans into incredible homes and trailers. Their 1962 Western Pacific Airstream renovation is by far one of their most impressive.
Before the tour begins, it’s best to understand a bit of history. These ten 40-ft-long were once used to house the foreman working on the railroads for the Western Pacific Railroad company. Two 20-ft trailers were riveted together creating a ‘double-wide’ trailer; this was then mounted on a railroad car.
Back in 1989, after Union Pacific Railroad acquired Western Pacific, all of the Airstreams were dismounted from their cars. Some of them went to museums, while others ended up in the lucky hands of the public. This was when Timeless Travel Trailers was asked to step in.
Most RVs are 20-30 feet long, so seeing the classic 40-foot Airstream being towed down the highway is quite the sight to behold.
The exterior of the trailer was kept true to its original form. The Western Pacific logo still appears on the side of the home, and the trailer was polished back to its original gleaming shine.
The moment you step through the Airstream doors you’re greeted by the mid-century modern decor, gorgeous furnishings, and a fully renovated living space.
The seating area features large built-in sofas with plenty of room for guests. The wooden floors and cabinetry provide contrast with the polished chrome walls and ceiling.
The impressive kitchen has extensive storage for dishes and pantry goods. Not only does it have a 4-burner stove, fridge, and large sink — it also has a wine fridge.
On the opposite side of the galley kitchen, the ample storage space continues. Both sides of the kitchen offer windows to gaze out at your natural surroundings.
Walk past the kitchen to the opposite side of the Airstream, and you’ll reach the generously-sized bedroom with desk and workspace.
The bed is on a hinged platform that lifts up for even more storage. If that wasn’t impressive enough, there is also a built-in armoire and shoe closet.
The ‘bathroom’ is separated into three areas — the toilet room, shower room, and sink area.
The bathroom’s handwashing area offers a deep basin sink, a well-lit vanity mirror that swings open to expose the medicine cabinet.
Just because it’s a traveling trailer, doesn’t mean the Airstream had to skimp on a luxury shower. Across from the sink, you’ll find the rain shower with faux subway-tile.
It’s clear that Timeless Travel Trailers knows what they’re doing when it comes to renovations. This 1962 Western Pacific Airstream was auctioned off to the new lucky owners for $210,000. Not only do they have a new home, but they have a piece of history.
