I never knew macrame could be this easy. I learned a lot from this tutorial.

We all have experienced tying knots in our lives.

The basic knots were introduced to us in schools, and some complicated ones were added along the way.

But these basic knots can transform into a masterpiece when creativity kicks in.

Let’s learn together how to create an adorable macrame ornament just by combining the knots.

Let’s get knotty.

You only need 4 simple items:

  1. 3-mm or 4-mm single-strand macrame cord
  2. Cinnamon Sticks
  3. A board for your workspace
  4. Pins to hold your workpiece

Thankfully, the steps are easy:

Cut the cord into 6 strings, each should be 2 feet long.

Using the Larks Head Knot method, tie the string to the cinnamon.

Make sure that the ends would be the same in length after tying.

Do this on all 6 strings, side by side.

Now let’s put a pin in it.

Lay the string-tied cinnamon on the board.

Place the pins on each side of the cinnamon, in between the tied strings, to hold it.

Group the strings into four, you should get three groups.

Start making square knots.

In each group, use the outside strings (both left and right) to tie square knots.

Do this on the other grouped strings as well.

Do another group of four strings.

But this time, leave the two outermost strings on each side. You should get two groups of four strings.

Tie the same square knots on the two grouped strings.

After that, group the strings again into 4, including the outermost strings you set aside earlier.

You will only tie the square knots to the group of strings in the middle, leaving the two outer groups untied.

Time to switch up the knots.

We will add another knot method to mix into this art piece. The Half Hitch.

Group the strings with 6 pieces in each group.

Starting with the group on the left, take the outer-most string and lay across the other strings.

Tie two, half-hitch knots starting on the left-most sting into the crossed string.

Repeat the same half-hitch ties on the remaining strings going to the middle.

Now we switch direction.

Once done, you do the same process on the other group of strings, but in the opposite direction.

Take the outermost string and lay it across to make two half-hitch knots on the other strings to the crossed strings, one by one from the outer string to the middle.

The crossed strings should meet in the middle.

Make one half hitch knot on each of the strings across the other.

Repeat the same process one or more times until you have two, half-hitch designs below the square knots.

Cut the excess strings to leave only about 1 to 1.5 inches.

With a comb, brush the tip of the strings until the strands are revealed and untangled.

Cut about 6 to 8 inches of cord and tie a basic double knot to each side of the cinnamon stick.

Cut the excess strings and voila.
