Gardens and house plants can really brighten up a home. They are great for growing food or adding a little color and life to a space.

However, for as long as people have been trying to grow plants and flowers, there have been pests that want to eat them.

Of course, there are a bunch of insecticide remedies that can rid your plants of these pests, but oftentimes these poisons are terrible for the environment and will kill beneficial insects as well–like bees, ladybugs, etc.

But not this one.

Rather than using some store-bought poison to treat your plants, why not try a home remedy that is 100% organic?

The YouTube channel GARDEN TIPS offers all kinds of great ideas and tips for growing plants and flowers in your own garden.

One video, in particular, focuses on pest management in an entirely organic and cheap way. It only requires three simple ingredients.

Baking soda, oil, and water.

To start, let’s be sure that you don’t mistake baking soda for baking powder.

Although it is similar in name, baking soda is actually pure sodium bicarbonate and is considered to be a biopesticide by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Whereas baking powder is only about 30% baking soda and is mixed with other ingredients.

Once you have properly identified your baking soda, you’re going to need some oil.

Neem to the rescue.

Now according to the video, the best oil that you can use for your pesticide is going to be Neem oil.

Regular old vegetable oil will work as well, but Neem oil is going to give you the best results.

Now that you have your baking soda and your oil, you’ll need some water and a container to put the ingredients into.

A container with a spray nozzle works best!

Once you have your container, pour one liter of water into it. Then, add two teaspoons of baking soda to the water.

However, if you think that you’re going to need a more potent dose of pesticide based on how bad your pest problem is, you can go ahead and add three teaspoons of baking soda.

Next, add one teaspoon of your oil.

Once all of your ingredients are in the bottle, you’ll need to mix them together really well.

The best way to do this is to add ten drops of eco-friendly liquid soap.

Once the soap is in there, give the entire bottle a good strong shake, being sure to mix the pesticide thoroughly.
