Transforming a worn-out dress into something spectacular and magical is not easy.

It takes more than talent.

Especially to create something out of nothing, or out of something that’s already seen its better days.

On March 12th, a 17-year-old girl posted a video on TikTok showing how she created a Disney Princess-inspired prom dress from an old wedding dress.

Megan Johnson decided to make her own gown from recycled material.

She wouldn’t want her parents to buy her an expensive prom outfit, so she made one for herself!

She transformed something thrifted into something stunning.

Her approach was creative and practical.

Megan pushed herself in making something new out of an old wedding dress.

In the 30-second video, she explained the steps on how she created her own Disney Prom Dress.

“This is me dying a wedding dress I thrifted to wear to prom,” she said in the caption of her video.

She started filling up a big plastic box with water, then added hot water as well.

Everything’s prettier in pink.

The dress was already looking good on its own with pearl beads on top and the skirt was embroidered with lace.

But Megan thought her prom dress would make it better in pink.

The dying process was magical, too.

She poured the pink dye that she bought from a local store into the water. She used a mop stick to stir the hot water.

It looked as though she was brewing a potion while working on this project. And she was enjoying it.

“This is me taking one more look before sealing my fate,” she added a caption while looking at the wedding dress one final time before immersing it in the hot water.

She’d never have expected the outcome.

As the dress was submerged in the pink dye mixture, Megan made sure that every bit of it sipped the dye mixture.

There’s no room for error. She used the tip of the mop to help the dress sink further into the mixture.

The dying process took about 30 minutes.

Then, Megan removed the dress from the mixture. Though in the video, the mixture looked purple, the end result was better than what Megan had expected.

A touch of pink all over.

The dress turned out gorgeous.

Megan posted another video where she wore the dress. Her mom took the video of her walking through a field in it and it was magical.

The video went viral, since gathering more than 2 million hearts, and has been viewed more than 20 million times.

Another user commented, “Beautiful dress for a beautiful human!”

And indeed it was beautiful, and so does Megan. With a smile on her face when she wore the dress.

This is truly an inspiration to any teen out there that you can make something beautiful and stunning out of anything. As long as you put your mind to it and commit.
