If you are like me, painting your nails is not your forte. No matter how patient I try to be, that top layer NEVER comes out the way I want. Fortunately, there is a simple solution.
Yes, you could spend your time practicing and practicing until you are an expert nail painter, but who has the time for that? Use this quick trick instead! Your nails will be of salon-style quality, but without you having to spend your time or money in that way. Perfect.
All you need are dental flossers and your favorite colors of nail polish, and you are good to go. First, put down a base coat. It is better to use a light color as the background – that way the other colors you use will actually show up. Paint the base coat on smoothly, and add your next color while the paint is still wet.
You will want a darker color for the stripes. The more contrast between the colors you choose, the more noticeable the design will be. Wipe off the excess polish, and brush your darker color onto the flossing tool. You only want a little bit so that the paint goes on smooth.
Now it’s time to create your design. Press the floss on the edge of the nail (it may get onto the skin of your finger as well) and push it across the nail in a rolling motion. There you have it: your first stripe.
Add as many stripes as you want, and add more colors if you wish! If you want a multicolored striped look, all you need is more nail polish and another flosser. Easy peasy.
For your stripes, it is best to use ordinary floss. If a flossing tool claims to be for sensitive gums, the floss itself may be too silky or thin to give you the clean lines you want. Luckily, flossers are pretty common. It won’t be hard to find the right kind of tool.
Layer your stripes as much as you want, and don’t be afraid to give the look your own personal flair. There’s no limit to the possibilities here.
When it’s all done let the polish set. You can clean up your fingers by dipping a cotton swab into nail polish remover and rubbing it around the skin. Once your nails have had a little time to dry, break out the clear coat.
With this neat trick your nails are sure to look stunning. You may not be a manicure artist, but you can give your nails a style and flair all of your own.
