In a video shared on YouTube, a woman shows the various ways of using and preparing Irish Spring for different tasks.

First, as a repellant.

You can take a brick of Irish Spring and shred it into bits using a box grater. Gather the shredded bits and put them in a container.

You can sprinkle the soap bits on window sills to deter any pests from coming in.

Flies are often attracted to your waste bin, especially if you don’t have a lid for your trash can. You can sprinkle a spoonful of the shredded soap into your garbage bag to keep the pesky flies away.

It can be used for gardening as well.

You can also sprinkle it on the ground where you have bald patches of grass to deter rodents from munching on the plants.

You can also put some of the shredded soap into a spray bottle. Fill it with water and give it a shake to dissolve some of the soap.

You can add vinegar if you want something a bit stronger but this mixture can do the trick.

Spray them in areas where bugs usually reside. You can also spray a bit on your flowering bushes to keep the bugs and rodents away.

You can also use it as a deodorizing bug repellant.

Dunk a brick of soap into a recycled bottle of parmesan cheese. You can use the shredded version as well if you have it.

You can use it as a portable scented repellant just by opening the lid of the jar. Place it by your seat on the porch or your favorite spot outside.

Alternatively, you can also use an ordinary jar. Put some of the shredded soap or a bar of soap inside a mason jar. Cover the mouth with cheesecloth and tie it in place. You can screw the cap back on when you’re not using it.

You can prepare your soap without using a box grater too.

Rub a brick of soap against the edge of your doorway or window sill. You can also rub it on surfaces near your house’s openings like doors and windows.

This will prevent insects from entering those areas. You can also rub it on the edges of patio tables and chairs to keep the flies away when you’re outdoors. Remember that you need to re-apply the soap after rain.

The science isn’t specified, but a lot of people swear by the effectiveness of this hack.

Ohio Public Health Entomologist Dr. Richard Gary said it could be because of the picaridin and the oil of lemon eucalyptus. He maintained, however, that the hack has no scientific backing.
