We all have those nights where we feel like when we go to sleep, the temperature in the room is either too hot or too cold. If it’s too hot, then you can’t sleep without a blanket or have to open a window. If it’s too cold, then you have to sleep with a blanket or two. Well, what is it like to sleep in a cool room? You know, when the temperature is more cold than hot? Believe it or not, there are great benefits of actually sleeping in a cool room at night! If you don’t believe it, here are 5 benefits.
1) You fall asleep much faster.
Every time that we go to sleep, our body temperatures slightly drop. This means that if the room is at a cool temperature, say 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, then our natural body temperature drops as well, making the process of falling asleep, much faster.
2) You lose weight.
Yes! When you sleep in a room at a cool temperature, your body increases in the number of brown fats. Brown fats burn off sugars and fats in your body by producing heat. The more brown fats you have, the more weight you may potentially lose.
3) You improve how you look.
While sleeping in a room at cool temperature, your body will release more melatonin. Melatonin is an antioxidant which is known for its anti-aging effects. Therefore, if you release more melatonin in your body, chances are you will look more youthful and better.
4) You have overall, better sleep.
As our bodies constantly try to regulate our body temperatures, it is best to sleep in an environment where the temperature is regular. When the environment is a room at cool temperature, our bodies do not have to do as much regulating, which makes a night’s sleep much more relaxing. When the room temperature is too hot or too cold, our bodies have to exhaust more energy to regulate our body temperature, which makes our sleep less relaxing.
5) You reduce your chances of getting cancer.
There is more release of melatonin from your body due to cool temperature, which means your blood will have more melatonin. In that case, melatonin-rich blood reduces tumor growth, while a lack of melatonin in your blood increases tumor growth. So we want to produce more melatonin, which we can accomplish by sleeping in cool temperature.
