Todays video is titled, “Simple Wardrobe Tricks to Look 10 Years Younger!” and has been viewed by over 1.3 million people all over the world. If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe in time for 2021, then this video could be for you!
“I think a lot of us limit ourselves as we mature, and we tend to limit ourselves to what we think is appropriate, and what we think is flattering and will suit us,” Dominique explains.
However, Dominique goes onto say that some of the clothes that we think are working for us could actually be causing us to look older than we actually are. But luckily, she’s on hand to share her styling tips with us all.
Tip 1. Wearing all black
While Dominique recognizes that black clothes can be slimming and flattering for many body types, she wants to stress that this color might look a little too harsh compared to our body’s skin tone.
As we age, our skin becomes lighter and more ashy, and wearing all black can accentuate the hollows between the neck and under the eyes.
Instead, Dominique suggests breaking up black with some skin-softening neutrals like beige and gray, in order to add a little more color around the face.
Tip 2. Patterns
Domique’s next tip is about patterns, and while she tells us that we don’t have to stay away from them as such, it’s important to choose a pattern which can look flattering on the body.
Hard, geometric lines can look really strict and ageing, as well as darker colors,” Dominique explains. “So in this case, you might want to opt for lighter and brighter shades with softer and more curved patterns.”
The YouTube stylist also explains that heavy skirt pleating and shirt sleeves which finish just before the elbow can actually cause you to look heavier than you are- so it’s best to avoid these.
Tip 3. Denim
“The skinny jeans look with the thick wedge is so yesterday, and it’s going to have you screaming, ‘I’m ready for carpool and a glass of rosé’,” Dominique explains. “A thick shoe draws attention to your calves and makes your bottom half look heavier.”
To give your denim look an update, she suggests trying out some jeans with cropped ankles which have either a mid or high-rise waist. The most important thing is to pick what suits your body type best.
Dominique pairs her jeans with a light and flowy top and a smart white jacket to tie the look together. For shoes, she puts on a pair of black heeled booties, which really help to complement the rest of her outfit.
Tip 4. Necklines
Dominique’s next tip for creating a more flattering wardrobe is to avoid high and rounded necklines, as well as clothes with a jersey material.
“Everybody loves jersey material because it’s comfortable, but it tends to stick to any bulges that are popping out, only accentuating areas that you’re probably trying to hide,” Dominique says. “High, round necklines also cut you off. They tend to make you look heavier in the chest area and they don’t elongate.”
As this look can make you look wider and dated, Dominique instead suggests opting for a collared, V-neck shirt to elongate your body, as well as accentuating the jawline. These shirts can be structured, fitted or loose- the choice is up to you.
Tip 5. Eyewear
It might not be something that we pay much attention to, but Dominique says that it’s important to consider whether your eyewear is flattering to your face.
“You don’t want to get eyeglasses which are too thick, too low, and rectangular,” Dominique says. “They only draw attention to the hollows of your eyes.”
Dominique’s preferred glasses are ones with lighter and more jewel-toned frames that reflect the light. When choosing your perfect pair of glasses, Dominique suggests taking pictures of yourself in each pair that you try on, so that you can actually see an accurate representation of what you look like in them.
Tip 6. Self- Tanning
Dominique’s top tip for looking younger is to self-tan. It’s a great way to add some warmth and depth to your skin, and is a safe way for women in their prime to achieve a golden glow.
