Oil tends to leave a darker stain on your clothes than do other substances. But you can get rid of ugly oil stains on your clothes before they become permanent. Check out these seven hacks to remove oil stains from clothing more easily.
Dishwashing Soap
The easiest way to remove an oil stain from clothing is to use dishwashing soap. The grease-cutting nature of this type of soap makes it easier for it to cut through the oil. Apply the soap to the stain, and rub it in. Allow it to set on the stain for at least an hour before washing the clothing as normal.
Cheese Whiz
Crazily enough, Cheese Whiz can help remove oil stains from clothing. Apply the product to the area of the stain, and allow it to sit for at least five to 10 minutes. Then, wash the clothing as normal, and the stain should easily come out.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is useful for more than just sunburns. It is also an effective cleaning agent for oil stains. Soak the oil-stained clothing in water. Next, apply the aloe vera to the stained area, and rub it vigorously to get the aloe vera fully into the stained area. Finally, wash and air dry the clothing.
Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola makes an effective stain remover. Pour Coke directly onto the stained area, and allow it to soak for a couple of hours. Next, wash the clothing as normal, and then allow it to air dry. Coke is also an effective way to remove blood stains.
Cornstarch and Dish Soap
Cornstarch and dish soap are an effective way to remove oil stains. Simply lay your clothing flat, and sprinkle cornstarch onto the affected area. Let the clothing to sit for 30 minutes before rubbing dish soap into the stain using a toothbrush to get it into the fibers if needed. To finish, wash and air dry.
Hair Spray
Hair spray is another way to remove oil stains from your clothing. Spray the area liberally with hair spray, and allow it to sit for a few minutes. The initial application should remove a lot of the oil from the stain. Then, just wash the clothing and allow it to air dry.
Baking Soda and WD-40
Applying WD-40 to an oil-stained area, followed by baking soda, can remove stains. The WD-40 makes the stain greasy again, allowing the baking soda to absorb it. Brush the affected area with a toothbrush after applying the baking soda. Repeat until the baking soda no longer chunks up, and finish by washing.
Shampoo
