We move so quickly throughout the day that we don’t stop to look around and realize that there are things in our midst that can make our lives a little bit better and easier.
Like those little holes on the side of your sneakers, or the difference in color in bread twist ties at the grocery store. Those things are there for a reason and serve a purpose you are probably completely unaware of.
Here are some things you probably don’t know have a function:
Holes on the Side of Your Shoes
Some shoe brands, like Converse, have holes on the side of your shoes that look like shoelaces holes. That’s because they are. While most people think these holes serve as a way to ventilate your shoe and keep your foot cool, which it is also, the main purpose is to give you a tight fit. You’re purposed to run your lace through it to get a tight fit. Learn how to lace your shoes with this method in the video below.
Pom-Poms on Pom-Pom Hat
They used to place Pom-Pom on the tops of the hats of sailors so that they wouldn’t hurt their head by banging them when the waters were choppy.
Flaps on the Side of Juice Boxes
The flaps on the sides of children’s juice boxes are there for a reason. Pull your flaps up and hold juice box by the flaps inside of the middle. Holding the middle can lead to squeezing the middle of the juice box which can make a mess. This is a mess-free method.
The Hole in a Pasta Spoon
The hole in the middle of your pasta spoon allows you to perfectly measure out a serving size of dry pasta before you cook it.
The Triangle With Number Inside It Stamp
The number inside of the triangle actually has a meaning. It signifies what type of resin the plastic contains and clues you into where or not you should store food in it. It should have a number from one to seven. According to Inside Edition, you should only store food inside of plastics that have the number 1,2, or 4.
Open Can Symbol With Number
You find a symbol that looks like an open can on some packages with a number inside. Usually, the number will be a 12 or 24. This shows you how long you can keep the item after you open the package.
Childproof Cap
You can unchildproof a childproof medicine cap by flipping it over and pressing it firmly. It should lock in place. Check out this other method below.
Bread Tag Colors
Each different colored bread tag corresponds to a different day in the week so its easier for grocers to move and sort the fresh bread. For example, blue is for Monday and yellow is for Friday.
