It’s not because it has a vintage design or furnishing, but because you’ll be surprised to know it is inside a cave.

This 2,568-square-foot private home is carved into a mountain giving it a natural and cozy atmosphere.

Kathy and Randy Clark bought the property but realized building something there was impossible.

One day, they heard something explode nearby, and it turned out to be their neighbor, a mining engineer building a cave house.

That’s how the idea came to them, and when they asked their neighbor if he could do the same to their property, they immediately got a yes.

He used ammonium nitrate explosives to blast through the mountain and checked if the structure was good enough to build a home inside.

Cathy and Randy got the go signal and started building the home of their dreams.

It took 15 years to finish their cave home, but it was all worth the wait.

The front exterior of the house leads you to the sunroom and looks bright and spacious.

It provides light for most of the day, and the sun helps keep the house warm through the night.

The temperature inside is consistent throughout, which is 68 degrees.

A long hallway leads you to the living area.

What makes the cave house unique and fun to design is that it doesn’t have this boxy shape like most homes.

Most of their rooms, including the living area, were designed to work around the space that resulted from the blast.

Their cave house also features a full-sized kitchen complete with high-tech appliances.

There’s a lot of space to go around the kitchen, and lots of counter space, too.

The kitchen and the dining area are just a couple of rooms in the house that feature excellent copperwork from local artists in Arizona, adding to the natural and rustic beauty of the cave home.

They also have a cozy bathroom with lots of greenery.

Kathy looked for plants that could thrive inside the cave, and they provided a light that ran for 18 hours a day to provide “sunlight” to these plants.

It gives the bathroom a tropical look, mimicking nature outside the cave.

One advantage of the cave house is the height from floor to ceiling.

The blast created a 15-foot ceiling height, so the couple was able to build a loft bedroom that looked conducive for sleeping.

Their property also has a nearby spring which provides them clean water.

It is filtered through about 80 feet of granite and produces around 20 gallons daily.

They get their water from this spring in a catch basin made of white onyx stone, where they scoop water out from there and place it in a jar for their kitchen use.

But the most incredible part of their cave home is at the other end of their L-shaped hallway.

Outside are multiple springs, some of which you can swim in.

They created patios by these springs so they could just sit outside, relax, and enjoy the nature around them.
