Got a dirty oven and wondering how to clean it?
Check out this video by Hacks with Christina. She’s got a filthy oven like any kitchen does so she starts off by removing all of the loose burned bits. That’s a good start.
She also says wiping down the oven with water and a paper towel is a good idea.
Put on some gloves and follow her as she drops a red power ball from a finished dishwasher tab in a bowl of warm water. Dip the dishwasher tab, white part down, into the bowl of water for a few seconds.
Begin scrubbing the inside of the oven, dipping back into the water as needed.
Don’t scrub on any heating element or fans though. Be thorough but gentle, making sure you’re getting all the dirt off with your scrubbing. Ovens come in different sizes so just adjust as you go along.
If the dishwasher tab breaks apart, it does eventually, go ahead and just grab a new one.
The broken bits can still be used to scrub and clean if you are gifted with amazing dexterity.
Use water and paper towels to wipe everything down. That will reveal all the spots that you may have missed and would need further scrubbing. You want a nice shine after all!
The water and paper towels also gets rid of the remaining soap residue.
Let the oven dry and if you don’t see any strips of white then it’s clean. It’s also a good idea to use a vacuum cleaner so you can suck up anything left inside, even the ones you don’t see.
Except your wedding ring.
It took her an hour and a half to clean the oven. Time yourself and see if you can beat her record. No one wants a dirty oven. It’s easy to cook but not everyone likes the clean up job.
A viewer attests to the method though. He says,
“I’ve been using this dishwasher tablet method for over a year now. It has to be the hard tablet type, but I’ve found even the cheapest hard tablets out there work really well. It’s definitively the best I’ve found to get rid of baked on marks. Yes, it can take a bit of elbow grease but it gives the best results of anything I’ve tried over the years.”
And apparently, there are many other uses for dishwasher tabs.
Kitchn lists 10 of them.
Just remember that when using cleaning agents, it is always a good idea to use protective gloves on your hands. And do try not to directly inhale any fumes. Keep a window or two open.
A clean oven does make the mind wonder as to what to bake next doesn’t it?
There are dangers to using a dirty oven too. A quick Google search will really have you reaching for that dishwashing tab. It’s arm day when you decide to clean so be sure to stretch!
