Not only will natural ingredients help you keep a clean home free of germs and bacteria, but you can also save some money by concocting your own DIY natural cleaning solutions.

Here are some natural ingredients that can be used to clean your home.

Baking Soda

Baking soda both deodorizes and works as a mild abrasive that can be substituted for chemical-filled scouring powders. Use some baking soda and a sponge to scrub away the scum rings in your bathtub, your vanities, or gunk in the kitchen sink.

You can use baking soda to make a paste that you can apply to the bathtub, sink, or your oven. Mix baking soda with some water and spread it over the area that needs to be cleaned. Let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes before you scrub then rinse it off.

Baking soda can also help keep your drains free of gunk and deodorized if you pour 1/2 to 3/4 cups down the drain. Let it sit for two hours or overnight. Follow it with hot water. You can find more cleaning uses for baking soda here.

Vinegar

Vinegar is great in the kitchen and in the bathroom. You can use it on countertops, floors, backsplashes, and the inside and outside of your toilet. You can also use vinegar to clean water deposits and soap scum. You can pour this directly on your surfaces or mix with water in a spray bottle.

Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is perfect for windows, mirrors, chrome fixtures, and ceramic tiles since it evaporates quickly. You can pour this directly on your surfaces or mix with water in a spray bottle.

Vodka

Alcohol works as a disinfectant, degreaser, and deodorizer. You can mix with equal parts of water and use it as an all-purpose cleaner or spray it as is to disinfect areas. Spritz it on fabrics in place of Febreeze.

If you want to cut some grease when doing the dishes, just add a few tablespoons of vodka to your soapy water.

Citrus

Citrus fruits work well on their own and with other natural cleaning ingredients. This is because it contains d-limonene which is a solvent that can cut through grease and dirt. It also smells great.

Pour some white vinegar over some lemon or orange peels and let the mixture stand for two weeks. After two weeks you can take out the peels. Add the same amount of water as vinegar and into a bottle. Hydrogen Peroxide is a fantastic sanitizer and disinfectant. It can be used alone to clean tiles, bathtubs, toilets glass surfaces, countertops, your fridge, and cutting boards. It can also be used to control or eliminate mold and mildew growth. You can also whiten grout by mixing hydrogen peroxide with some white flour to create a paste that you can apply to the grout and cover with plastic wrap overnight before wipig it away.
