Liven up any room of the house by adding plants, and what better way to add a plant than by hanging it up. Hanging plants add a unique element to the room, and it barely takes up any space. Follow this simple tutorial to make your own hanging leather planter. It’s stylish and looks like it came out of a home decor magazine. Best of all, you will probably have most of these supplies at home, so give it a try!
You Will Need
- leather or any fabric that will be able to hold up the plant
- a potted plant
- rope
- a ruler
- scissors or a utility knife for cutting
- a leather punch
- tape
- a pencil
Getting Started
Begin by drawing a square on your leather. The measurements should suit the size of your pot. When you place your pot on the square, it should be small enough to fit in the square but not too small where there is an excessive amount of space.
Now measure how tall the side of your pot is and use that length to decide how long each side of the surrounding boxes should be. Cut out the leather (it should look like a cross).
Punch holes in the outside corners of the boxes.
Next cut out 4 sections of rope that are 36 inches each. This length is customizeable depending on how low you want your plant to hang.
Insert your rope. Tape the ends of the rope to make it easier to insert if the holes are too small. Look at the coordinating colors shown below to see where to put each strand. Remember, when you first insert your rope, insert from the right side of the leather to the wrong side of the leather. When you finish through the other hole, put it in the right side first through to the wrong side.
Tie a knot at each end, place your plant in the middle, and hold your creation up! You are done!
Simple yet chic! This is a great decoration for any room!
