When it comes to getting a good night’s rest (especially for those with neck pain and tension headaches) Contoured Orthopedic Pillows can make a huge difference. Right now, there are a couple of market leaders in the category – the Sutera Dream Deep Pillow and the Dosaze Contoured Orthopedic Pillow.

With these two pillows on the market, it begs the question – which one should you get? We ordered both and have conducted a side by side comparison of these two products to recommend the one that we think is best for you.

We compared these two pillows across multiple dimensions and gave the following ratings – even, Dosaze/Sutera slight winner, Dosaze/Sutera clear winner

Here’s a summary of how they stacked up.

  • Overall winner: Dosaze
  • Customer service: clear winner, Dosaze
  • Price: clear winner, Sutra
  • Functionality/effectiveness: clear winner, Dosaze
  • Value: clear winner, Dosaze
  • Materials/quality: slight winner, Dosaze

Here’s some more detail on each of the categories above and how we came to our conclusions.

Customer service – clear winner, Dosaze

While it’s impossible to please every customer, Dosaze goes out of its way to make everyone who purchases a pillow happy. You can see in the review on the site that customers really appreciate Dosaze’s customer service:

If you look at Sutera’s reviews online, it has some questionable reviews from the better business bureau. They require a 15% restocking fee to return which they do not advertise.

Price – clear winner, Sutera

Sutera is priced at $65.97 while the Dosaze pillow is priced at $119.99 (however, it’s important to note that Dosaze comes with an introductory 10% discount, so the difference isn’t as stark as you initially might think).

Sutera takes the cake when it comes to price, at least at face value.

Although the Sutera pillow has a slightly lower price of $65.97 compared to the Dosaze pillow at $119.99, you need to think long-term. While you might spend a little more upfront for the Contoured Orthopedic pillow, it’s going to last a lot longer because it has higher quality (certified) materials. In addition, it comes with a 3-year warranty (and the Sutera Dream Deep pillow) does not have a warranty, so you know that in the rare case you do have an issue, you’re covered. So, from a cost perspective, the Dosaze pillow is a much better investment.

Not only that but you can pay for this Dosaze pillow in four easy and interest-free installments of just $32.50 through Afterpay.

Functionality/effectiveness – clear winner, Dosaze

Sutera and Dosaze make similar claims, but after we tested them, we prefer the Dosaze pillow, especially when it comes to relieving neck pain and tension headaches. There are actually slight differences in the shapes of the pillow, and we thought that the orthopedic contour of the Dosaze pillow wasn’t as rigid as that of the Sutera, which allowed for a bit more freedom of movement while also having enough support to cradle your neck and maintain alignment.

Some people on our team tend to wake up with headaches – an added benefit of Dosaze is that it helps prevent tension headaches. Users do not report this additional benefit with the Sutera Dream Deep pillow.

Value – clear winner, Dosaze

Although the Sutera pillow has a slightly lower price of $59.97 compared to the Dosaze pillow at $119.99, when we compare overall value, Dosaze wins.

While you might spend a little more upfront for the Contoured Orthopedic pillow, it’s going to last a lot longer because it has higher quality (CertiPUR-US certified) materials. In addition, it comes with a 3-year warranty (and the Sutera Dream Deep pillow) does not have a warranty, so you know that in the rare case you do have an issue, you’re covered. The Dosaze pillow also comes with a longer risk-free sleep trial (60 day vs. 30 day). You can have confidence that you’ll have more than enough time to tell if the pillow is the right one for you or not.

You also have to consider that the Dosaze pillow comes with a premium bamboo cover, while the Sutera pillow comes with a cheaper polyester/microfiber cover that typically feels hot.

Not only that but you can pay for this Dosaze pillow in four easy and interest-free installments of just $25 through Afterpay.

Materials / quality – slight winner, Dosaze

Dosaze comes with CertiPUR-US certified memory foam – this certification means that the foam and factory through rigorous testing to ensure it met strict standards for content, performance, durability, and emissions.

As for the Sutera pillow, we weren’t able to confirm the product had the same certification. This means that the foam may not be as high quality and may contain a higher ratio of VOCs and may be made with PDBEs, TDCPP, TCEPs, formaldehyde, phthalates, and/or ozone depleters. These substances can be dangerous for your health.

The Dosaze Contoured Orthopedic pillow’s cover also consists of 60 percent polyester and 40 percent recycled bamboo. Sutera doesn’t list the materials its cover is made of (which likely means it’s of a lower quality polyknit). Comparing the two, not only is the Dosaze pillow extremely supportive and comfortable but it’s also more environmentally friendly, naturally cooling, and antimicrobrial (thanks to the properties of bamboo). We loved the feeling of the bamboo cover on our skin – it is cooler, naturally antimicrobial, and soft as silk.

After our review of both the Dosaze and Sutera pillows, Dosaze is the clear winner. While it is slightly more expensive, the product is a better value and higher quality. You can also have confidence in the overall buying experience and security knowing your investment is under warranty and comes with a 60 day sleep trial.
