Caitlyn and Zac were sick of having their day-to-day lives consumed with ‘things,’ along with the rat race of earning money to keep those ‘things.’ So, they decided to make a drastic change.

The young couple from Becker, Minnesota have two young children, and it seemed like their debt continued to climb. In pursuit of happiness, the family decided to downsize and try out the tiny living lifestyle.

After attending a Tumbleweed Tiny House Workshop, the young family designed and built their very own tiny home – Hogan’s Haven.

The workshop certainly paid off because Hogan’s Haven is seriously impressive. When four people are sharing a small space, you have to get creative, especially when two of those four people are small children. Caitlyn and Zac did just that.

The layout of the home is long and narrow but has every amenity you could possibly think of. The living space has tall vaulted ceilings and an abundance of natural light.

The light colored wood helps make the home feel large and spacious; it is also a beautiful contrast to their dark hardwood floors. The room flows from the kitchen to the seating area, and up to the storage loft.

The fully functioning kitchen is ideal for cooking family meals.

The kitchen features a stovetop range with oven, deep basin sink, and an apartment sized refrigerator. From this view, you can have a sneak peek up at Caitlyn and Zac’s sleeping loft.

Pots, pans, and other dishes are kept up above on the exposed shelving. The additional storage loft has plenty of space for whatever else needs to be stowed away when not in use.

The dining area comes to life with a folding table and small benches. This space also serves as their laundry room.

It’s space-saving techniques like this that allow an entire family to live here without it feeling too cluttered or claustrophobic. Keep reading; the surprises just keep coming.

Notice the drawers next to the refrigerator? Pull them out to transform them into steps to the sleeping loft.

When not in use, the drawers can be pushed back in to maximize space. Plus, the aesthetic of the drawers versus a ladder or stairs is much more pleasing to the eye.

Caitlyn and Zac’s sleeping loft is a cozy, comfortable sanctuary.

The loft is spacious enough for a queen-size mattress and is surrounded by windows to help the space feel open. Plus, they allow for plenty of natural light. There is also shelving in the back of the loft with cubbies for storage.

Back downstairs, just past the kitchen, you’ll find Finn and Piper’s room.

The craftsmanship continues as you can see by the adorable wood bunk bed. Drawers below provide storage for the boys’ clothes and toys.

The bathroom is small but fits in all of the necessities — like a small sink with medicine cabinet and composting toilet.

The shower is spacious with plenty of room to stand, and there’s even a small tub for the boys to have a bubble bath.
