Meet the Gypsy Mermaid – an incredible tiny home designed and constructed by Rebekah and Bob Sofia. Inspired by the couple’s travels, the home is jam-packed with European style and other fun features that aren’t typically found in a tiny home – like a pizza oven.
Constructed using mostly recycled materials, the Gypsy Mermaid came to fruition for a cost of only $15,000. The couple also saved money on labor by doing all of the construction themselves.
Rebekah took care of all the design elements of the home, while Bob was in charge of the ingenious construction of the Gypsy Mermaid. When you step into their incredible home, you’ll see that they make quite the team.
Stepping into the Sofia’s living room is like being whisked away to a cottage in the Italian countryside.
Upon entering the home, your attention is immediately drawn to both the gorgeous wooden staircase and the clay wood-fired pizza oven. Wooden floors, exposed wood beams, and patterned tapestries give the home a cozy and welcoming feel.
The kitchen features gorgeous stone countertops as well as a stone sink. Beautiful tilework graces the kitchen’s walls.
The Gypsy Mermaid’s kitchen boasts a small oven with stovetop for cooking, although, the Sofias prefer to cook in their pizza oven as often as possible.
A bright and vibrant dining area is found at the far end of the home.
Comfy cushions sit on top of the dining room benches providing a great space for enjoying home-cooked pizza or entertaining friends. Windows surround the space, providing an abundance of natural light.
Upstairs, you’ll find the sleeping loft where decor and furnishing were kept to a minimum.
The sleeping loft, located above the dining area, is accessed via the handcrafted wooden staircase – hidden underneath is a combination washer and dryer.
Toward the other end of the home, you’ll find the seating area, a lounge/storage loft, and a bathroom located underneath.
From this view, you can get a sense of how tall the ceilings are, making the tiny home feel much larger than it really is. Beneath the lounge and storage loft is the Gypsy Mermaid’s bathroom; a sink is in the center, with a shower to the left, and a toilet to the right.
Wandering to the back of the home, the Sofias have created a whimsical backyard with an outdoor shower.
Thanks to the fact that their home is located in Florida, the Sofias are graced with warm weather on a regular basis.
