While we have featured our fair share of DIY projects here on Shareably, there aren’t many that rival the creativity involved in the one shown below.
Catherine Elsby, a twenty-something-year-old blogger in Colorado, created a cool cementer planter that’s not only useful and durable, but it’s also very cost-efficient. It’s a creative way to showcase all your beautiful flowers!
To start off, she used the following materials, many of which can be found at your local home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowe’s.
- Towel
- 2 5-gallon buckets
- Water
- 1/2 bag of cement mix
- Mixing stick for concrete
With all these materials in hand, Cat went to work.
First, she combined the cement mix with as much water as the directions for the mix required. The cement should feel soupy, but it should never feel runny. I know, that’s rather vague, but make sure not to add too much water. After adding the required amount, only add a few more splashes if necessary.
Once you’ve made the mixture, dump a towel in the cementer and use your mixing stick to really move it around. You want to completely soak the towel in cement.
Once soaked, remove the towel and place it over the other 5-gallon bucket to dry. This will take about 24-48 hours, and cement will drip into the other bucket. You want to wait until the cementer is very stiff and sturdy.
It’s easy to tell when cement dries because it turns from a dark gray to a lighter color.
Once the cement has dried, remove the towel from the bucket, and drill two holes in the bottom of the cement for water drainage.
Finally, flip it over and fill it with soil and flowers. And that’s it!
