Have you ever wondered if you could use your empty plastic bottles for something else? If you can give them a second life instead of recycling or throwing them away?
This thrifty gardener will show you how to take your plastic bottles and turn them into an adorable flower tower in several simple steps.
Even if you haven’t crafted before, you should be able to do this project with ease.
First, he takes his bottles, marks the top, and cuts them using a box cutter into a funnel shape.
He cuts the edges into a flower shape using scissors, totally upping the cute factor.
Plants don’t like to sit in water or have soggy roots; this is why drilling holes into the caps is important.
These holes will help your flowers or plants drain when they are watered.
Next, he uses spray paint to decorate the bottles instead of leaving them bare.
He chose blue, red, pink, and yellow, but you could paint yours any color you want to match your home or garden décor!
In another video by Ala Garden Ideas, you can see how to make the tower itself.
This process requires a little more than cutting bottles, but all it takes is some PVC pipe, a saw, and a drill.
After the paint dries on your cut bottles, you can place them on your tower.
But, before you put your plants in, make sure the base is weighed down. Simple garden rocks will do the job just fine or, you can even put more plants at the base!
Now, the exciting part, fill up those adorable planters with some potting soil and plants of your choice. You can use seeds, already started plants, whether they are flowers, succulents, fruits, vegetables, or herbs.
Plants and flowers can brighten up your home and even help keep the air clean. They are also known to improve mental health and immune system, which, if you ask us, is a fantastic bonus.
With this flower tower, you can fit more plants in one place using vertical space.
You could even use this tower to grow fruits and vegetables like lettuce, which is one of the easiest foods to grow at home.
Make sure to give your new plants a good watering and that they are getting the right amount of sunlight based on their needs. Of course, all plants and flowers have different needs, but as long as you meet those needs, you’ll have happy and healthy plants!
It’s great to reuse plastics whenever possible, instead of recycling or throwing them away.
Although recycling is beneficial, it’s not a perfect system, which is why reusing plastic can help to keep it out of the landfill.
There are tons of other uses for plastic in your garden, such as turning a laundry detergent container into a watering can, using the bottom of plastic bottles as planters, and even turning a bottle into a sprinkler!
Even outside of the garden, there are many uses for reused plastic, just be creative.
