Alternative living has been all the rage over the past decade. But as more people come up with amazing options, it’s growing. Just imagine having a family of four. You’d think someone would need a vacation house with at least two bedrooms and preferably, more than one bath. But as one guy proved, other possibilities exist.
Sharing his story
This man has a wife and two children. He did something that most of us would think was impossible. But to show it can be done, he shared his story online. So far, it’s been viewed more than 850,000 times.
Living off the grid
This particular family wanted a place where they could go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city from time to time. So, in 2016, they made a bold move. After purchasing acres of woods and wetlands, they begin to put their plan into motion.
12 days
That’s how long it took this guy to finish the tiny cabin he and his family would use as their recreational retreat. With winter fast-approaching, he knew he had to work fast but without skimping on quality. He went to work and ended up with something that exceeded even his expectations.
Fighting the elements
Although this father put his plan together in July, he faced several challenges. One of those was rain. For days on end, he couldn’t do anything but watch water pour from the sky.
Laying the groundwork
Finally, he started to work on the foundation of the tiny cabin. Yes, it was going to be small but with some clever engineering, it would provide plenty of space for a family of four. With that done, he moved on to the next step.
Looking more like a home
In just over a week, what started as a foundation and studs began to look like an actual home. He put the doors and windows in. This guy even added a small porch that would be ideal for looking out over the vast wilderness.
Almost done
Getting closer to the 12-day deadline, this guy had the roof on, the insulation in, and he’d even installed a gorgeous wall wood-burning fireplace. It was all coming together beautifully. The finish line was now in sight.
Inside touches
Due to the small size of the cabin, the man took full advantage of vertical space. That included adding a loft as a sleeping area. For access, he built a handy ladder.
The finished project
In a mere 12 days, this guy took a piece of land and built a tiny cabin that his family is incredibly proud of. Although there’s ample sitting room inside, they opted to put a picnic table outside where they enjoy a lot of their meals.
A cozy house
Once winter came, this family hunkered down inside of their new cabin. The kids had games to play with but there was something even better. With their new wood-burning stove, they enjoy roasting marshmallows for smores.
