Finding a ‘bonus room’ in a new home has its ups and its downs…and by down we mean a dark, creepy…potentially haunted dungeon underfoot.
After Irishman Daniel Carley moved into his new apartment in England, it was time to start checking out his new place. Everything looked great and he loved the high ceilings.
“It’s like a 19th century monastery in the middle of England.” – Daniel Carley
He wasn’t too crazy about his loft bed and steep staircase but hey, he could get used to it. All in all he was very pleased with his new digs.
However, something wasn’t quite what it seemed. He took a video of himself walking through his new apartment to document a very interesting discovery he made.
At the start of the video you see a normal apartment with nothing out of the ordinary.
Nice…normal kitchen.
All the necessary kitchen appliances are provided. “It’s pretty nice. I have closet space and all the usual stuff,” said Carley.
A very normal staircase leads up to the bedroom loft.
“Got a bathroom…pretty standard” – Carley
However, after exploring the rooms, he noticed a small trap door on the floor with a hatch.
“And then I looked down here and…what’s this? It’s definitely a handle so I figured a bit of underfloor storage.”
Well he was right about the storage but he was in for a big surprise.
Under the trap door he found some tools and other household items.
He opened the trap door and saw the tools but also noticed something else. There seemed to be an opening for additional storage space.
“It looks like it goes down pretty deep.” – Carley
This definitely wasn’t listed in the original rental agreement.
After moving the items out of his way, he realized this was not just an opening, it was a staircase that led down to a corridor. Goose bumps anyone?
He decided to get a flashlight and go see what was beneath his apartment.
He is a brave lad.
He went down a corridor and saw lots of old bricks and stones. After entering a large room, he saw a large stone slab on the ground.
“Obviously a burial ground…It’s like a brick seat or bed…or sacrificial alter. Pretty strange.” – Carley
There were openings everywhere that led him to different areas.
“Lets explore the rest of the dungeon.” – Carley
“This is a pretty small space.” – Carley
Carley kept going down another corridor that was longer until he was directly underneath his neighbors apartment. He could even hear them talking above him.
“Interesting graffiti on the walls.” – Carley
He found old doors and a window that had been bricked over.
And yes, another creepy, dark opening.
The space seemed to go on and on but Carley had had enough exploring his personal dungeon for one day. Who knew what was lurking around the next corner? He wasn’t sticking around to find out…at least not today.
“At this point exploring on my own…I’m a bit freaked out so I’m closing the hatch and calling over a few friends.” – Carley
