Luckily, this man shared with us how he removed years of grim in his kitchen exhaust fan.

Kitchen exhaust fans have one of the most important jobs in your kitchen. These mechanical fans help clean your kitchen air by removing impurities and moisture from the kitchen. Since it’s situated above stovetops and cooking surfaces, it reduces grease buildup and maintains cooking comfort.

As you know, your kitchen is an important part of your home. This is where you prepare your meals, so you need to keep everything clean. You don’t want to eat food that has bacteria in it, right?

One good way of cleaning your kitchen is keeping your exhaust fan.

Since these fans are regularly used to remove and filter air, you need to schedule a weekly maintenance and cleaning session. Waiting for months or years to clean it is not a good decision. Imagine all the grime you will have to clean.

Justin McCurry shared a video of him cleaning 12 years of grease accumulation for the kitchen fan.

To clean the exhaust fan, here are the materials you need:

  • pan
  • dishwasher detergent
  • old toothbrush

You need to hire a professional or buy a new exhaust fan with this trick.

In the first part of the video, Justin explained that he tried using hot water, Ajax soap, and Goo Gone but none of these worked. Luckily, he tried using a dishwasher detergent and worked seamlessly.

The first step is to clean the exhaust fan using water.

Despite cleaning with water, the exhaust fan still has grease. Hence, we move to the next step.

Place the exhaust fan on the pan and put some detergent on it.

You can see that Justin putting detergent on the whole body of the exhaust pan.

Using the old toothbrush, remove the grime off the fan.

Once you are able to thoroughly brush the grime off the fan, you can start cleaning it with water. Justin even recommends that you have to clean it every few months. However, for them, they were able to clean it after 12 years.

As Justin removes the soap using water, you can see all the grime wash up from the sink.

It’s amazing how clean and sparkling the exhaust fan is after a few scrubs! However, there are still little greases on the edges. Using a toothbrush, Justin starts scrubbing it again and used a hose to clean the edges.

It’s so satisfying to see all the dirt and grime removed with each spray of the water. Once there are still a few grimes that can’t be removed, use the detergent again.

Repeat the steps until all the parts are clean.
