Microwaves are great for heating up our food fast. But there are lots of things your microwave can do that go beyond making your food nice and warm.

Here are some of our favorite microwave hacks.

Remove Candle Wax

If you want to remove some candle wax from a glass holder your can place it in the microwave until the wax melts. Take our your glass piece with an oven mitt and pour the wax into the garbage. Soak up any excess with a paper towel.

Make sure you remove the metal piece that holds the wick with a knife before placing it in the microwave.

Shrink Charms

Cut out a piece of clear plastic (plastic from disposable food containers work well for this) and place it over a picture. Use a marker to trace and color in the picture onto the plastic. Cut off any remaining pieces of plastic but leave a piece at the top with a hole through it so you can hang your charms. Microwave the pieces on a microwave-safe plate for 2 minutes.

They should shrink up and curl, but you’ll be able to flatten them out when they come out of the microwave. You can hang these charms from a bracelet, necklace, or keychain. Get the full tutorial in the video below.

Make It Fit

If you want to place two bowls in the microwave at once, you can place one on top of a mug so that both bowls will fit.

Parmesan Bowl

Pour some grated cheese out into a circle on some parchment paper. Make sure it is larger than the rim of the bowl you will use to shape your parmesan bowl with. Cook on high in the microwave until golden brown. Quickly take it out of the microwave and flip it onto an upside-down bowl with the paper still attached. Press the second bowl over the parchment paper to shape your bowl. Press down firmly. When the cheese dries you can take the bowls off and peel away the paper. Get the details here.
