You might know Alban “Snoopy” Pfisterer as the drummer from the iconic 1960’s rock band, Love. Since his heyday, he has been living a much quieter life in the Pacific Northwest in a unique and whimsical home.
Alban wanted a private space amongst nature where he could create new music and other forms of art. What he built is something straight out of your wildest imagination.
One look at the house, and it immediately draws you in. Its intriguing exterior is unlike any other home in the world. Alban wanted to avoid using any squares; his goal was to use curves and imperfect shapes to match the dense forest around him.
Each shingle of the home is different and imperfect making the cabin feel organic and one with nature.
The cabin, located outside Olympia, Washington, features a small wooden deck with outdoor table — perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee while taking in the sounds and scents of the lush forest. One of Alban’s favorite pastimes is playing chess for hours while sitting in the sunshine.
An overhead view gives a glimpse of the home’s open floor plan and nature-centric theme. Wooden branches serve as functional pieces for the cabin, as well as for decor.
Alban did a beautiful job of bringing elements of the forest inside the home. Instead of being a man-made structure, it feels as if the home is a part of nature. From this view, you get a glimpse of the entrance, seating area, and upstairs loft.
The focal point of the unique cabin is the wood-stove. Downstairs, the open floor plan keeps the wood-stove in plain view no matter where you are.
Seating surrounds the wood-stove and provides an idyllic space to socialize, relax, play some music, or just warm your bones. A large, round wooden pillar sits in the center of the room and serves as one the cabin’s structural supports.
The kitchen looks like something fit for a hobbit. Although branches and other wood elements encompass the space, there is plenty of room to prepare meals.
The kitchen features a sink, small stove with oven, and a mini-fridge that is hidden by a beautiful, handcrafted wooden cabinet. The branches and wood pieces feel as if they’ve grown in from the outside.
By far one of the most interesting rooms in the cabin, the bathroom fully encompasses the ‘Mother Nature’ theme of the home.
Since the entire downstairs is an open floor plan, there are no doors to this bathroom. It is accessed via an entryway in the kitchen. Since the toilet is in a separate room outside, Alban wanted to make this room unrestricted. Relax in the bathtub while your significant other passes you a nice glass of wine.
Upstairs, you’ll find Alban’s bedroom. Windows were installed on every side of the home, from floor to ceiling, providing natural light for every inch of the home.
The bedroom is a modest space, but it has everything Alban needs including a double bed, bookcase, and hammock. He can wake up to the morning sunrise and gaze out at the lush greenery outside his windows.
Music is still an important aspect of Alban’s life, so a music ‘room’ was a necessity.
Also located upstairs, Alban created a music nook where he stores musical instruments that he’s collected from around the world.
It’s obvious that Alban’s heart and soul were poured into this natural, rough, and unique home. Take a full tour in the video below.
