Tonya Tooners took advantage of every lucky penny she found. After acquiring 13,000 of them, Tooners, a DIY enthusiast, decided to put them to use in a way that didn’t involve cashing them in. Instead, she took the $130 worth of pennies to the ground.

From afar, you don’t even realize that the floor is covered in pennies. It just looks like a beautiful, mosaic work of art. We love all of the different copper shades in the design. The look of it is especially beautiful when the light reflects of off the shiny coins.

While beautiful, Tooners does admit that tiling a floor this intricately with pennies turned out to be a very tedious project.

She first had to find the center of the floor in order to accurately create her design. From the center, she drew an axis which she was able to use as a guide to begin creating her diamond pattern. She chose different shades of pennies and purposefully alternated between heads and tails.

The alternating colors and coin faces create a very visually appealing design.

Once the diamond reached the edges, Tooner made a strong design choice and put a penny border around the diamond.

The craziest part about this floor is that the pennies are held down with Elmer’s glue. Who knew it was strong enough for tiling a floor?

In addition to the ten bottles of glue she went through, she also used grout, wood filler, and what Tooner refers to as “expensive poxy.”

We cannot get over how incredible this floor looks!

It’s amazing that Tooner even had this idea, so it’s even cooler that she was able to execute it in such a glamorous way.

You would definitely need to have a lot of patience to pull off a project like this one. Tooner admits that actually laying down the pennies was the most difficult part of the whole process. Once they were down, however, she was able to really enjoy what she was doing.

The project as a whole took Tooner a few months. Seeing the results of all that hard work goes to show that it was worth every penny.
