Meet Sandy. She’s retired but instead of laying back at home and spending the rest of her years idle, she’s decided to live out her golden years in a lovely little home on wheels.
Looking at it from the outside, you wouldn’t think she’d have much space but once you step in, Sandy’s little home is a treat for the eyes.
Sandy is from Iowa but has been living in Colorado for forty years.
Her last home was a thousand square feet. Now that she’s retired, this lady wanted change. A new life!
Together with her dog Zoey, Sandy gives a tour of her surprisingly spacious home starting with her kitchen.
It has a large fridge, a two-top stove, and a convection oven.
There’s also a farmhouse sink and limestone backsplash to add a level of sophistication to the whole place.
Sandy even has a dishwasher and it is under that dishwasher where Zoey likes to sleep.
There are twelve windows that allows natural light to filter in.
And check out her huge refrigerator and pantry with pull out drawers. Sandy could host a party!
All her possessions are placed in well thought out places. Very practical.
Sandy also has a $59 piano which she uses to sing with the Durango Choral Society. She likes to keep herself busy.
Behind that purple door is her bathroom. It also holds her washer and dryer which she loves.
There’s a decently sized shower with a heater and a sink for whenever she wants to wash up.
The living room has a couch that also works as a bed and fits just right next to the small staircase which stores her shoes.
Each step has a drawer that acts as storage for Zoey’s things, her winter hats, and other stuff.
You can find lots of storage space in Sandy’s home. Her artwork brightens up the interior really well and she’s really proud of that.
The bed sits right on top of the couch, and like all her furniture, is the perfect size for her home.
The bedroom is her favorite place. A 3 inch mattress, her clothes, and pictures of her family make up her personal area.
The exterior has a little memento that reminds her of her sister who passed away.
Would you believe there’s also space to store more stuff outside? There’s two openings on both sides.
It’s where she stores Zoey’s food and some of her tools. The other side can hold a bike!
She calls her home The Dragonfly hence those dragonflies above her door.
Sandy says the key is good insulation and that it’s built properly. It is your home after all.
It is important that your personal space be as comfortable as can be. And if, like Sandy, you’re retiring with this set up in mind, plan it well.
She’s definitely happy with her choice. Sandy even says that if you’re in the area, knock on the door.
