A lot of people are doing everything they can to stay during these times.
Handwashing and spraying sanitizers on hands and everywhere have become normal. Face masks are required when going out and physical distancing is practiced everywhere.
Unfortunately, with all these safety measures in place, there’s still one thing people need to worry about during their holiday shopping: robbers.
And it’s definitely going to be an issue now since there are lots of people who have lost their jobs, and their income and desperation have become part of their lives.
But it’s still not easy. All people want to do is to survive this pandemic.
They don’t want to have to worry they’ll lose their belongings while trying to stay safe from this coronavirus.
The good thing about this thievery problem, though, is that it’s easier to take care of than this pandemic.
The Windham NH Police Department knows this, that’s why they share safety information to help shoppers feel safer.
“A holiday shopping safety tip for women. When using a shopping cart as you browse through the store, keep your purse zipped or closed and secure it to the cart by clipping the child safety belt through the strap(s). This will help in preventing someone from taking advantage of your distraction and running off with the purse,” they wrote on their Facebook page.
What a simple yet very effective tip!
Instead of being annoyed at the strap, we can use it to our advantage. Make sure that you loop the cart strap through your bag straps, though. Otherwise, it won’t work.
Well, what about those shopping carts that don’t have straps?
“For those carts that don’t have the child strap, keep an inexpensive carabiner clip attached to your purse strap. Simply clip the carabiner to the cart and your purse is more secure,” they offered as an alternative.
That carabiner clip can be used for so many things. And now it can be used as a bag security clip while shopping!
You can buy several clips and attach them already to your bags so that even if you change bags, you’ll always have a clip attached.

These are great tips, don’t you think so?
Some people might find it excessive but it’s still better to be safe than sorry, right?
What other tips can help us stay safe while shopping at a store?
At the store, bring out your card or cash at that moment you’re about to pay. If you take it out prematurely, there might be another person just waiting to stealthily get your credit card info or your cash.
Or better yet, use contactless cards or mobile payments.
If you’re shopping alone, only buy what you can carry.
Or be prepared and bring a larger bag you can use to hold all your purchases. You can also ask for help from the store’s employees if they can help you bring your purchases to the car.
Be sure not to bring your small children when you shop.
It’s hard enough to keep them safe, keep them from running around, and keep your belongings safe. If you must bring them, shop at stores that have curbside pick-up so you don’t need to get out of the car.
When you get to the store, make sure to park in a well-lit area and shop during daylight hours.
Make sure that your things are safely stored in the trunk and not visible at the back seat of your car. And always double-check if you’ve locked the car doors. Triple check if you have to.
Carry just enough cash as you need. And keep it in your front pockets where only you can access it. You can also use your credit card for all your purchases. Just make sure it’s always in a safe spot where only you can see it and get it.
Of course, the safest way to shop during this pandemic is still online.
But, with these safety measures against thieving, you’ll still be able to shop safely in stores.
