Bacon and cheese are God’s gift to earth, and many of us may even hesitate to admit how much of the stuff we’ve stuffed ourselves with our whole lives.
The savory, salty goodness of pork bits and the juicy, creamy delight of cheese is a match made in heaven.
When the craving strikes, it’s pointless to resist it. Come on, you’ve worked hard and made it this far, you deserve a delicious sandwich full of carbs, cholesterol and dairy. It’s not like you’re eating it often enough to be unhealthy, right?
Yeah, I thought so.
Though the saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is true, it’s also true that refinement breeds innovation. That’s how we got better computers and cars, right? And now the same concept is here to give us a new way to enjoy bacon and cheese with bread.
Would you believe that you can make bacon and cheese bread now? Not bacon and cheese with bread – literally bacon and cheese bread.
Like the meatier, carb-ier version of banana bread.
There’s a recipe, of course. The major tool here is a slow cooker, and it’s going to add a whole new layer to the way you can prepare bacon and cheese with bread.
Slow cookers, much like pressure cookers and food processors, are such handy things to have in the kitchen. If you don’t have one yet, you might just be missing out. Quality of life isn’t something we should gloss over when we’re working in the kitchen. The birth of easy, slow-cooker recipes like this one makes a fine point of that.
It’d be a crime if there weren’t one, wouldn’t it? Your ingredients are going to be the following :
- 3 cups of self-raising flour
- 2 cups of warm water
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- You’re going to want to have some non-stick cooking spray and baking paper too.
Some incarnations of this same recipe also throw in some melted butter. It’d be wise to measure appropriately if you fancy adding that.
Gather all the ingredients you want in your bread (namely, the bacon and cheese before anything else, obviously!). Into the slow cooker they go, and make sure the slow cooker has baking spray and non-stick paper lining it. Cheese can get awfully sticky, as we all know.
It shouldn’t take any longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes to cook, but it wouldn’t hurt to check on it every now and then.
Now, enjoy bacon and cheese can be enjoyed in a totally new way. Not that they weren’t already enjoyable, of course!
What may be the best part of all this is how hassle-free it is. The slow-cooker handles most of the work, and you can leave it to do its job for an hour and a half while you go relax some place else. When you come back, there’s a scrumptious serving of bacon and cheese bread waiting for you.
For those of you who don’t have a slow cooker, has this convinced you yet?
