There’s nothing more annoying than a dirty car windshield – especially when you use your windscreen wipers to clean the outside, only to discover that the dirt, marks and streaks are on the inside.

Cleaning your windscreen is far more than just an aesthetic thing. Keeping the inside and the outside of your windshield clean will reduce glare, ensuring that you have a clear view of the road at all times.

But for many of us, cleaning inside our windshields seems like far too much fuss.

Scrubbing with a glass cleaner doesn’t seem to do the trick – it just ends up making the glass look even more smeary.

Luckily, if this is a particular cleaning pain point for you, the internet is full of tips and advice.

YouTuber ChrisFix has a simple 3-step cleaning method.

This will change your windshield cleaning game forever.

Chris explains that the inside of the windshield is a pain to clean for several reasons: it’s hard to get in behind the dashboard to reach the glass; and it’s common for the glass to accumulate an oily film that leaves streaks and makes cleaning a long, arduous task.

Chris says that this oil comes from the plastics on the dash and inside the car.

To get started with cleaning inside your windshield, first wash down the outside of the glass.

This will help you to see exactly what you’re dealing with.

Next, take a clean, dry microfiber towel and use it to wipe down the entire interior glass surface.

Chris recommends cleaning from the passenger’s seat, so you don’t have the steering wheel blocking your cleaning efforts.

To reach more difficult spots, angle yourself with the palm of your hand facing the glass.

Then, use rubbing alcohol to degrease and clean the glass, removing the oily film.

You can also use a Magic Eraser for this job, which is what Chris does – he dips the sponge in a bucket of warm water to activate it, then gets to work straight away.

Clean in circular motions, making sure your cleaning cloth or Magic Eraser has enough liquid in it to make the glass wet.

If you get any drops on the dashboard during cleaning, wipe it off immediately to avoid staining.

Finally, use your favorite glass cleaner and another microfiber towel for polishing.

Spray the glass cleaner directly onto your towel, rather than onto the windshield, to avoid drops on your dashboard.

Chris explains that this process works on any interior glass in your vehicle, including the side and rear window glass.

But for rear tints, he recommends simply using soapy water and a microfiber towel instead.

Chris shows us a step-by-step of his cleaning process, and there’s no denying that it works.
